Not really Ao likely his away like a coward watching Shisui with his eye to determine his chakra signature. Now there's no scan of the 2 fighting however in the Itachi shinden novel adaptation it(addition) does show Ao observing Shisui.

Well at least there was an explanation to where it was coming from. So far it’s all BS asspull for Byakugan power...at least for now. I’m interested to see what new abilities we’ll get from the Byakugan though and the source of said new abilities when they surface
