It is a bit trope but there has to be something going on an that would prolong this story..

The Boruto Kawaki fight seem to be a few years away from where they are now an they have to get stronger, so what's a good way to make that happen is to have the enemies beefin among themselves an with the villages in general..

Konoha cant be the only village in ruin, plot has to go big in order to kill off the shinobi world..

I think they'll work together just fine, but messing up badly could lead to death like the old man.
