Itachi experienced the most, no one could withstand such a fate
Madara and Hashirama all their childhood and growing up

Itachi doesn't count, he chose to do those things.

Sasuke's grief was the worst with Gaara's coming in second. Gaara comes in second because he had been driven so insane that the pain became numb until someone managed to knock some sense into him, whereas Sasuke stayed sane after the massacre and didn't have the luxury of some massive raccoon Tailed Beast driving him insane.

Sasuke lost everything and had no one and lived in the same place for years even after the death of his parents and clan. He'd been manipulated his entire life, and was betrayed/used by everyone besides Naruto. The village used and betrayed his people, his brother used and controlled him, Obito used him, everyone used him.

Sasuke has to live every day knowing that he didn't lose his family in some freak accident but that they had been used and thrown aside. He watched his parents die twice in a genjutsu for God knows how many hours, etc.

I'm not trying to fap, but no character comes close to Sasuke's grief excluding Gaara. People are so shallow that they believe that because all of the girls in the academy liked Sasuke and because the people at the Chunin exams treated him like some endangered animal, his life was easier than Naruto's.

Y'all know damn well Gaara's is #1, and Sasuke's is #2.

Sasuke's whole clan was slain, no doubt. But at least Sasuke experienced good memories before the massacre. What did Gaara enter life with?

1. Birthed as a tool of war/political power
2. Being called a demon
3. No one would acknowledge him
4. Hated by his father, born a Jin because of his father
5. His uncle tried to kill him. His uncle hated him
6. Not even Temari, or Kankuro liked his ass. His own damn sibilings
7. He became a narcissist because he didn't, and couldn't understand what love was

Tell me Sasuke even comes close to that type of malevolent childhood. Not even close.

Definitely read this to understand why Gaara is by far the most tragic character in the manga.

His cousin lied tho didn't he? He loved Gaara and showed him love for year's until Gaara's dad told him to put on a facade to see if the bijuu would run wild. Gaara's and Sasuke's are in the same boat somewhat just Gaara was at a younger age while Sasuke was tortured in Tsukuyomi for lord knows how long after his clan was slaughtered.

Naruto's is kinda overrated.

Mine would be
Sasuke/Gaara
Gaara/Sasuke.
Haku
Nagato
Kimi.
That's just from old gen.

1. Gaara
2. Naruto (because his brother figure didn't turn against him)
3. Nagato, Yahiko and Konan (RIP Chibi the Dog)
4. Kabuto
5. Uchiha Brothers

Sasori and Sai also have particularly nasty origins that made me feel sad.

I believe Haku had a pretty rough life all his clansmen were killed in fear of their power and his own father killed his mother for protecting Haku just because he found his son has a kekkai genkai and in self defense Haku killed his own dad, on top of that he died at an early age

Glad someone mentioned Haku :)

In comparison to everyone else, Naruto's wasn't as tragic. Had Sasuke's grief and loneliness been stressed as much as Naruto's, the lists would be much different. I'm pretty sure he wasn't expecting to find the corpses of people he had just seen alive hours before, or the dead bodies of kids he had a sleep over with a week ago.

He probably will never forget the precise ways in which Itachi's blade cut into the skin of their parents.

Couple that with constant paranoia that Itachi would be back and the fact that he's living all by himself, Sasuke by all means should be insane. Naruto would seem rather bitter than insane from what happened to him. They all suffered, but I'd take Naruto's loneliness over the insane emotional burden and paranoia Sasuke had to deal with.

I really do think they had it pretty even. Naruto's smile and insane tolerance often makes it easy to overlook what his childhood must've even been like, with no sense of belonging, safety or identity with no reason why and a literal embodiment of evil whispering in your ear. I think it's a miracle that Hiruzen didn't have another Kyuubi attack on his hands to be quite honest, any weaker willed person (me included) would've submitted to Kurama's hate long ago. Naruto's story is every bit as horrible as Gaara's, except for the saving grace of Iruka not betraying him.

Sasuke had a terrible origin but his actual childhood could be argued, he didn't suffer from persecution/isolation in the academy like his brother did and had a pretty privileged range of Leaf resources, being popular and adored, people praising his skill without issue, a sensei who put him first etc. I realise that these aren't things who cared about due to Itachi screwing him up but they were still offered. I'd still put them equal, an argument for one could be spun either way.

Sasuke seemed almost blind and completely apathetic toward any praise and worship he got and only deemed how good he was based on how close he thought he was to Itachi. This is where people disconnect between Naruto and Sasuke. Naruto enjoyed the premise of friends and attention, while Sasuke didn't care about it. Sasuke only wanted praise and attention from his parents and brother, and all three left his life with one being the reason why his situation was so terrible.

Sasuke's pain doesn't begin and end with the massacre, but he learns that his people had been persecuted the entire time they were in the village and were then thrown away after their usefulness was at an end. He was tricked into killing his only nuclear family member left and then his final relative was manipulating him into his own personal schemes.

For Naruto, overtime things got better and for Sasuke things just deteriorated.

This fanboy had to throw in kabuto lmfao. Nothing particularly tragic about his childhood at all.

and whats wrong with Obito's backstory?
It was kind of lame a bit. I mean he lost himself because a girl whom didn't even love him died.

Sure they were friends, but I feel like most shinobi don't lose their way just cause their crush get lost.

He got radicalised and began to disassociate from reality. He learned to not value life because he was genuinely put in denial that he was even in the true world. In Kishi's own words, Rin is a metaphor.

It's not all about how much you lost, Obito's fall from grace is tragic.

...You realise Kabuto is one of the most psychologically broken characters in the series, yes? There is NO debating that. It's his undoing.

Way to completely misinterpret his subtler story.
