Tsunade has a backstory, actual meaningful struggles, character development that actually survives past 1 arc, legit accomplishments rather than leeching, and is pivotal person in the history of shinobi.

And all that with well less than half of what Sakura has in appearances.

She is one of the only characters in this manga to earn the title 'badass', but her own personal fears and struggles are actually heavy and real- unlike Sakura's. Her phobia and alcoholism make her feel like a real, relatable person.

For me, it's because Sakura is a wannabe Tsunade. Her arsenal is the same as Tsunade, only with a less artistic taijutsu style (Sakura has no combos, which Tsunade does.) Naruto and Sasuke, her two neosannin counterparts, also learned from Sannin masters, but their arsenals are unique enough to make them stand out. Sakura is just a copycat.

I agree that she has enough development as gai or sai, etc. But then, she got 10 times as much screen time as those side characters, so it's a bullshit comparison to begin with.

I don't mind her romantic interests, and her relationship with Sasuke is mature enough, so I like her for that.

Everything else about her is just sad, though, and not even remotely likeable in a character that was supposed to be the sticky glue that keeps Team 7 together.
