Was Itachi justified in killing the Uchiha?

No, you cannot justify Itachi's actions no matter how you look at it. Anyway, the Uchiha Clan were planning a coup against Konohagakure. Itachi massacred them to avoid an all-out war. He did what was best and his intentions were good, but others may see it as bad by viewing the Uchiha Clan as innocent.

If he killed the conspirators, it would have been fine but even that would raise suspicions. Wiping out entire clans of people is never right, even if you feel like their leaders are plotting evil things. The evil schemes of powerful Jews drove Hitler to kill the ones who had little to nothing to do with any of it.

Konoha created quite a predicament and decided to just off the Uchiha when things backfired. Itachi wasn't a hero and doesn't consider himself such. Heroes stand up for people who are being wronged (e.g Uchiha's), they don't wipe them off the face of the Earth. No normal clan or ethnic group would sit around, trying to gain the favor of a government that doesn't like them and if they had the sort of power that the Uchiha had, a coup occurring was just a matter of time.

The wiping out of the Uchiha wasn't a matter of right or wrong, because if it was, they'd still be around.

Justified? Not really. But history is littered with romantic notions of great people doing horrendous deeds for the sake of love.

The massacre was not his fault, its originally Tobirama's and Danzo's fault

Danzo's not Tobirama. Tobirama may not have been a friend to the Uchiha, but he had no designs to steal their eyes and wipe them out as a whole.

Danzo on the other hand......

Yes, believe it or not but his actions rid Indra's bloodline of all the Uchiha prone to the curse of hatred. He left Sasuke because it was his younger brother's destiny to rebuild the Uchiha free of hatred. Sarada inheriting Naruto's will and becoming Hokage will redeem the clan.

I think Kishi might have also been inspired by Star Wars, Uzumaki went near extinct and so did Senju so in order for the world to be "balanced" Uchiha would have to suffer the same fate. Naruto and Sasuke are the new progenitors of Hagoromo's descendants.

Tobirama was just like Danzo, both of them feared the sharingan, they isolated the Uchihas and treated them differently from the other clans and made them enemies to the village which resulted in their elimination.

I actually think Danzo inherited Tobirama's will. and by the way Danzo is not as bad as you think, in his point of view he did all this for the greater good not for himself.

Shit situation!..

Take over konoha, weaken your defenses, leaves them open for invasion from other villages & clans.. Kill an entire village that is not involved or kill off a clan who are all willing to kill in the village women & kids alike.. Itachi Shisui & maybe ***uka only had susano'o to fight with if that many & a young Sasuke..

The Uchiha wouldn't have lasted long after a coup on konoha IMO because they would've had less defense.. The coup would've taking alot of lives from the Uchiha side anyways only ended up with the hunting of them till their extinction..

Zetsu/Indra/Madara is responsible for the butthurt of the clan along with constantly losing or equaling out to the Senju.. frustration killed the clan not racist Tobirama who's fought them his entire life..

Itachi did the best he could with the situation he was in & it save thousands more from dying or going to war..

Lord Crow kills your fav..
Amaterasu..

How can you justify killing hundreds of people good or bad?

He should have KA Danzo or his father instead of this genocide.

Regardless of what we think Itachi could have done, Kishi meant to portray the massacre as the only rational outcome. He did a shit job at making it seem this way but Itachi was essentially put into a trolley problem and made the right choice.

Technically no, since most were innocents. But, they would have been likely to be a bundle of destruction if the truth was let out.
