That's his fighting style. He either gets you completely in an explosion or fails/misses it's target.
Explains why this fight was so poor when a OHKO character is battling a protagonist with plot armour.
If you analyze most fights in this series. There aren't many direct blows especially when you look at Deidara's fighting style which is fatal shot after fatal shot.
Raiton was Deidara's downfall. He honestly should have fled but his Rustledness for He who cannot be soloed made him try to beat Sasuke

No chance. A match-up literally decided by chance, Deidara's abilities obviously can never hit because ingesting microscopic explosions or being nuked ends Shippuden early. It's an-overlong and unneeded battle that ruins one character in the attempt to clearly showcase the other. Biased battles aren't fun. Battles with little motivation between strangers aren't interesting.

The only cool thing in it is Sasuke actually busts out the ninja tools again. Shame they're the last time we saw them in Shippuden, back when Sasuke had a cool moveset.

Deidara's attacks don't become "fatal" until he use C3 and above. C1 and C2 are just regular bombs and guided bombs that Deidara himself can tank.
And still top 5 fight in shippuden.

Nope .Tobi's contributions could be easily replaced as I explained.a clone can set the underground explosions .he wouldnt have needed Tobi's warning if he hadnt been there in the first place.
Clay is Deidara's main ability while sharingsn genjutsu isn't .Deidara knew about genjutsu as a basic info but he was still ignorant about everything about Sasuke and other sharingan abilities.on the othe hand Sasuke had the elemental advatnage which favored him greatly .

1st: Hebi sasuke has not shown kirin. Apparently you forgot the requirements to set up the jutsu.
2nd: Even if he has it, i'd be small scaled since he has no amaterasu spam, which can be dealt with using sharks or moving out of the way.
And yes kisame would eat him for breakfast. Don't even go there.

And wiped the floor with Bee on his Octopus home turf. Shelke will go any lengths but writing off Kisame Hoshigaki as some basic jonin fodder is ouchies

As I've said Kisame is arguable, he's Itachi's partner but he admits his inferiority to him, nothing guarantee that he can defeat Sasuke.
Forced Itachi? When? You mean that pointless conversation? Sure. He got shitted on by Kurenai and by Asuma in CQC. Sure, he forced Itachi to bring out his MS. Makes sense.
With Bee's stolen Chakra, you mean? Bee isn't Sasuke and Sasuke's isn't Bee. If Kisame can fall before a simple Genjutsu, then he has no hopes of getting out of Sharingan's. Unless, you are serious with this nonsense? I gotta say, you would go to any lengths to discredit Sasuke's feats. Ironic.

Sasuke did very well in that fight, but c'mon man, saying he wiped the floor with Deidara is a hell of a stretch. That fight took a hell of a lot out of Sasuke, especially if you remember how long he would've needed to rest if he didn't already have Orochimaru's abilities at his disposal.
