There is no such thing as an ‘empathy’ gene but there is significant evidence that the capacity for empathy is a hereditary trait and, like height and cognitive ability, a polygenic one (meaning that thousands of genes each having a small effect are responsible).

We know that women have, on average, a greater capacity for empathy than men and this manifests in manifold ways, including in the tendency toward violent crime.

“The researchers found evidence that this important human ability to read, understand and respond to emotions in others — vital for social interactions — is indeed influenced by genetics, and that women were much more adept at discerning emotions than men. The researchers even found a specific genetic variant that influenced that ability in women, an association not found in the opposite ***. In addition, the study found that higher empathy scores were also associated with higher risk for anorexia, more years in school, and openness to new experiences.”

Whether there are average racial differences in the capacity for empathy is an open question that GWAS will shed upon in the coming years.

Some people here don't believe that there are different human races and if they do they mostly tend to think that there's no difference between them except for maybe skin color. I doubt you will get a decent discussion about this topic here.

So you think black people are inherently unempathitic because that's the thread topic

And we had this same discussion last thread and none of you could provide no real hard science to back your beliefs

I said no such thing. I merely said that it's not worth discussing it here for reasons I've already stated. Stop painting others in a negative light just because they disagree with you on something.

Dude what are you saying the thread topic is black people are unempathetic and your the one who brings into this thread how people are different racially

Either your supporting the thread topic by saying that, or for whatever reason you feel compelled to say randomly that people are racially different

And we already had a thread discussion on racial difference on intelligence genetically and none of you guys could credibly back up what you guys said.

As previously stated there's no empathy gene. Where this theory could apply is the size of the part of the brain that processes emotions, it is well established that Orcas have a higher developed part of the brain responsible for emotions than humans. But that does not make them smarter or superior to humans. So maybe some people might have that part of the brain underdeveloped, but these people would be associated with autism or similar mental disorders. Whether there is dimorphism in the emotional region of the brain between races has not been established. In my personal experience I'd say more white people than black people are unempathetic, they're just better at pretending to care. On the other hand, I also know a lot of white people to which this does not apply. So it might just be the upbringing, environment and/or culture. I've lived in eastern European countries where people pretend not to care, but care deeply. Whereas in Australia many people pretend to care, but don't really give a crap. And to both of those cases there were also exceptions. So there's that.

What about people that are really good at reading others and being empathetic despite no one in their immediate ancestry being such? Are anomalies able to pass on their unique traits?

Did you not read it?

You should, the back and forth it is appealing.

You would like it, try it.

Cya, pumpkin.

I believe ya, stormfront. Perhaps on a rainy night next to a fire.

If I was a pro wrestler in the 80's or in Jim Herd's WCW, Stormfront would be a good ring name.

But not a campfire, like a fireplace in a study.

Be a scholarly pumpkin.

Which side of the argument are you finding more convincing?

Big dicks and empathy. It would've been unfair if we had both, I mean come on

Another theory I encountered when looking at Alt-right theories. Apparently I lack the empathy gene due to my lack of Neanderthal heritage. If anyone has any evidence to back up this claim because we do in fact have a few alt-right users here, please do respond.

Discuss.

No they dont, its just the racism from 30 years ago still affecting their community, as some (unfortunately) dont care about education they go to crimes (as a result from their ancestors not finding any jobs because whites dont want them, its just the way things have been)

If the black community could eliminate the "thug" culture and focus on empowering the black person by education we could see many great things , they need a leader who could challenge the way things are there

Unfortunately i dont think that will happen any time soon

Yes, I find their theories interesting and I want to see how right they are. They're taking a more clever and subtle approach with racism this time and I'm interested in seeing if they really have some evidence.

It's really nothing new. Racists have attempted to co-opt science to support their racism since racism has existed. Just look into things like phrenology to see how it was used in the past.
