Well Kakashi didn't actually teach him. The idea was already put in place by Minato but he died too early to realize it. Kakashi just helped Naruto in accomplishing the jutsu's creation.

Naruto was taught how to do it by Kakashi, the formula was completely known to Kakashi, all he had to do was tell Naruto to follow it.

Part of the problem was Hashirama being too weak which he only later realized once he acknowledged that he had to kill Madara. Had Hashirama take some authority over Tobirama and actually discussed with Madara about who should be Hokage, then none of this would've happened. Though unfortunately, it was all destined to happen, so there might've been another turn of events which would've led to Madara's vengeance anyways.
