Gentle First is an archaic fighting style

Hyuga are potentially a lot stronger than the series portray them but they are HEAVILY limited due to their old fighting style. Im not saying it's a weak style but based on the Naruto series shinobi system its fallen behind. Infact, during the PRE village system where CQC, weapons and ranged artillery was used Gentle fist was potentially the STRONGEST style to support a clan from attack OR fighting off other clans.




During the time PRE village system the benefits of Gentle fist were:

Quick kills (VERY FEW probably knew of it or understood it)
Chakra conservation allowing extended fighting due to their defensive/passive fighting styles
Excellent defense vs Kunai and weapons (Most common among shinobi during those times)
Defensive protection against bigger shinobi groups. (Rotation could effectively protect a clan from bombardment)


HOWEVER, now that Jutsu has developed and advanced on a massive scale their abilities should have changed as well.

Infact, instead of GENTLE Fist they should have focused to develop a more aggressive style of combat.

Instead of shutting down Tenketsu 1 - 2 at a time. They should have developed to shut down entire areas at one time. Even developing to use their chakra control for speed augmentation for more mobility or even genjutsu.

I mostly blame their old traditions of Main Branch/Lesser Branch because lets face it. Any one who consider Rotation a Forbidden jutsu should clearly re-evaluate the bubble of a world they live in.

Anyways that's my rant.

I agree that the Hyuga clan indeed have a lot of potentials.

-they could develop a way to block Tenketsus from a distance with Senbons.
-they could release elemental Chakra from their Tenketsus instead of normal Chakra so they can add Nature Transformation to their Gentle Fist techniques just imagine a Fire Release or Lighting Release One Blow Body or Rotation.
-they could use the Gentle Fist for Medical purposes as shown when Hinata fixed Naruto's arm.
-Kakashi stated the blocking Chakra points stop or increase the Chakra flow so the Hyuga clan could create an NV version of the acupressure where they are fixing the Chakra flow of someone.
-they can potentially create a Ranged Gentle Fist by combining Twin Lion Gentle Fist and Air Palm.

As for now nothing suggests that they are. And most members here like Lady Byakugan and Indra agree on that and both are great at researching etc.

And I refuse to believe that Sakura tanked a Bijuu Dama so there is that too lol

The only high ranking hyuga we've seen is hiashi and he didn't really get much panel time, There is potential for more high level gentle fist techniques like twin lion fists that we haven't seen before.

We've never even seen twin lion fists true potential, It's said to greatly increase attack range, So depending how what range we're talking about maybe they can press chakra points without needing to be right up close.

yEAH, I've always thought either Boruto or Himawari would display the full potential of the Lion Fists. I mean Hinata pioneered and hinted its potential but as you said, we never really had that much panel time. I want need Lion Fists to be promoted to mainstream.

On a fair note, there isn't many shinobi who truly excel in long ranged ninjutsu. Gaara's division iirc was long ranged fighters but they still need Naruto to defeat the raikage. What I am saying is that I believe the truly devastating long ranged attacks might require a lot of chakra and talent that a few would only devote themselves into mastering. Remembering how Naruto started, the most epic fights are those that involved tactics and close encounters with the enemy. During the war especially its climax, we were treated with insane, grand scale jutsus, courtesy of Madara, the Jins, the Kages, Naruto and Sasuke etc. It was all power scaling gone out of conventional proportions.

When the Hyuuga claimed they were the strongest of the Leaf, it is pretty understandable where they were coming from. A few can really outmatch a Hyuuga in a taijutsu battle. And I would dare to claim that the majority of ninja population would have basic to advanced ninjutsu that the Hyuuga can confidently counter. The whole flaw is in the lack of actual evidence and panel time.

Still strongest in Konoha, that should say alot about their abilities.

Most people aren't good at long range, most shinobi fight close range. Even those that fight long range can be countered with Air Palm and Chakra Destruction.
