I think people think he mean't it was a Genjutsu technique or falls under genjutsu catagory.

If that's the case, then no it isn't a Yin chakra-based ability, but it is an illusionary technique of the Ninjutsu category.
Genjutsu can't be seen by everyone, clones can, its a hologram not a mental projection brought about by chakra control

What? Clone technique isn't a Genjutsu, it's an illusion in the form of the user.

Illusions don't have matter. His clones in that case were solid. Didn't they actually attacked Kaguya? Naruto is above all a trickster.

Shadow clones and Clones are two different things.

Clone jutsu is genjutsu, Shadow Clones are just physical copies. There's no true trick, it's just a numbers game to be honest. Just kill as many as you can in one full swoop and keep your eye on the Naruto that's weaving the signs to make more clones.
