Many of us have seen threads where it has been asked which dojutsu you'd rather have in real life. I have seen a few people say that they'd pick sharingan over rinnegan or byakugan (even if they had to start from 1 tomoe). My question to those people then is: why?
Why would you pick sharingan assuming you'd have to start from 1 tomoe?
I for one would pick rinnegan. Sasuke's rinnegan would be best since I could teleport and traverse dimensions, but even a tomoe-less rinnegan like Madara's would be better than sharingan. Here is why:
1. The rinnegan would have a slew of practical applications in real life. I could use the jet boosters of Asura path or the gravity of Deva path to fly (so my transportation needs would be taken care of). This would be much safer and more efficient than driving, and I wouldn't have to worry about paying for gas, maintenance, auto insurance, etc... If I had Sasuke's rinnegan, I could teleport and traverse dimensions. I could even take up residence at places like Kaguya's deserted castles (might have to fix the places up though). This would save me money on having to buy houses or dorms on my college campus and I wouldn't have to pay taxes since my property would be not only out of country, but out of world. I could still genjutsu people with a tomoe rinnegan as well. Animal path summons could act as home security, and depending on the animal, I could use them to complete tasks for me while I do other things (limbo could work for this too). I could potentially learn creation of all things and use that for a variety of purposes, and I could master all the elements since the rinnegan grants mastery over all elements (infinite hydroelectric power anyone?) I could summon and talk to dead souls, and interrogate people with the nakara path or human path. This would be great if I got an FBI job or something like that. I might even be able to control time since gravity is actually the curvature of space time, and time slows down for an object in a high gravitational field relative to an external observer. For those that don't know, that information was introduced by Einstein's relativity.
2. In terms of battle applications, my life isn't really that violent, but in situations where I'd have to defend myself, I could easily kill my opponents with Asura path's lasers and missles. Doing lethal things with gravity would work too.
As you can see, I could get a lot of practical real life application of the rinnegan, as well as battle application. Plus, my friends and family wouldn't have to die for me to be able to use all the good stuff!
The sharingan however has many flaws when it comes to real life (assuming you start from 1 tomoe).
1. What could you really do with a 1 tomoe sharingan? You could break genjutsu, but if you are the only one with powers in real life then who is ever going to cast genjutsu on you? Reading lips and copying writing are okay, but they are very limited in application. Perhaps an FBI/ CIA type job would make use of this, but there is not much else. Even then, people in those fields are already trained to do things like reading lips and analyzing writing to begin with.
2. How would you advance the eye? Unless you are a soldier at war or something like that, then how many people's lives are actually violent enough to induce the stress needed to advance the sharingan? Even if you did advance it to 2 and 3 tomoe, you still probably wouldn't get that much use out of it unless you are a soldier, an FBI/CIA type agent or a police officer that sees a lot of action. Sure you could copy techniques, but who else in this world would actually have techniques for you to copy anything. Sure, perhaps you could copy some great martial artist, but that is still not a very extraordinary thing, and most people who lead relatively non-violent lives still wouldn't get much use out of that or out of the precognition. Genjutsu would be your best bet because you could control people to do what you want or get information out of them, but this really only appeals to those who choose to be sinister. Also, I already mentioned before how a tomoe rinnegan can still cast genjutsu as well (stronger than the sharingan actually).
3. You'd have to lose a loved one to awaken MS, and when even if you awakened it, your utility of it would be luck based (since it would depend on what techniques you got). You might get lucky and get something like kamui which has both high practical and battle applications. However, you might not get so lucky. For example, what would you do with something like amaterasu?! In battle that would be great, but unless you are constantly getting into death battles, then what use would you get out of it? Would you plan to become an arsenist and casually burn down buildings or something? Even if you wanted to do that, the rinnegan would already have you covered since you'd have mastery over all elements (including fire style).
4. Even if you got MS, you'd have to either restrain your usage of it or go blind and let your health decline! Where would you get EMS in real life assuming that you were the only one with powers? Who else would have a sharingan or Senju DNA for you to avoid blindness? Also, would you really even be enough of a bastard to kill your sibling and take their eyes or hope that they die so that you can get EMS?
Sharingan may be great in the NV, but in life it leaves things to be desired. Even byakugan would be more useful up until MS (assuming that the MS jutsu was something useful like kamui or Shin's telekinesis). At least with byakugan, I could see just about anywhere I wanted.
Tell me, why you would pick sharingan if you would.
