I dunno if they'll have Boruto TnJ Kawaki, but in the future scene in the battle against Kawaki, Boruto agrees that there was no other solution than what had happened (the village getting destroyed).

And opts just to fight the dude. Whether they save him or not is up in the air, but it's a Naruto continuation.
