Dunno. But when i first watched the episode (dubbed in romanian) it made me laugh like rofl. I am not acid like the member above, for me Haku is pure as snow and I don't accept perverted switches about the relation master-pupil that Zabuza had with Haku.

Could be simply for comedy.
Also, Haku's meant to have a very pure personality as somebody who devoted his entire life to helping Zabuza follow his dreams. This is obvious during Zabuza's death scene. Now, a female could have represented this, but making Haku a boy with an attractive appearance might just amplify that. Eg. "Wow, Haku seems so peaceful and pretty... and he's a boy? That's even more incredible!"
