Fast enough to blitz Akainu's punching speed from across the ocean 3/4 in to the marineford.

I would say 3 panels per page.

But I don't understand this question. Even if you take Luffy we have 20 years of material of him now.

How fast is Luffy ? What is the answer there ? Very fast ?

But how does very fast hold up against another very fast character ?

I think the realistic answer is "as fast as he needs to be" because the anime is translated from the manga. And the manga only shows the panels of action not the part of getting there very much. I know that is super vague but if you watch "The Flash" who is the fastest man alive, other than speedsters, you should think there aren't many threats out there for him to run into. But when The Flash fights a big and slow Gorilla Grodd the Gorilla can still get a couple of punches in. That shouldn't make sense, but otherwise it wouldn't make much of an entertaining story if Barry Allen really is the fastest man alive and never gets hit.

And that parallel with Gorilla and Barry might be interesting for Big Mom and Luffy. Because it's more than likely Big Mom will smack Luffy around in the next chapters, but we have 20 years of info that Luffy should technically be a lot faster and more agile to be hit by a giant like that.

So what is speed on a manga page ?

You are thinking too much. The best way to compare speeds is to look at how fast certain characters are relative to others. Maybe we can't answer in MPH, but we can say the luffy is probably faster than coby given that he intercepted Coby's Soru for instance.

I think in this case the answer of probably as fast as Rayleigh when he stopped Kizaru is the best answer we can get. That speed has to be pretty quick because we know admirals have pretty fast reaction times. (relatively)

Another way is to say that if akainu is punching at a regular speed, then for shanks to move from an unnoticed position to intercepting akainu (might have even been from his boat) he would have had to get there in maybe a half second or less. If it was indeed from his boat at a few 100 meters away, he was probably moving faster than the speed of sound or on that order of magnitude.

Shanks has shown this feat of being the fastest chrachter in One Piece since day 1. He came out of nowhere in the middle of an Ocean to save Luffy. Then on WB's ship he dodged the sake bottle that WB threw at around arm's length and he did not even get up. Same thing with Akainu.
Shanks is probably the fastest charchter in OPverse.

Uhhh the sake bottle is nothing lol and its pretty obvious kizaru is the fastest character, he just has a bit of a charge up time.

I think he used time-manipulation or some form of observation+conqueror haki to appear out of nowhere. Shanks appeared out of nowhere with his ship too, and he went to whitebeard to warn about BB vs Ace, although WB himself had a feeling Shanks was certain when he talked, further confirmation is that him being emperor he wouldn't go to WB based on some feeling.

He also clashed with best swordsman Mihawk, given that he himself is also a swordsman, he would need something else to match the power. This could be very strong observation or conqueror haki.
And I forgot the incident with him having conqueror haki permanently on WB ship.

I think his specialty is haki, and when he is finally Luffy's opponent we will be reveled about haki, how it works and everything. He will be through whom we learn all about haki in OPverse.
That's what I think.

My point is if speed of sound guy Shanks would fight Big Mom who clearly moves at a very slow pace. You know he would still get hit in a yonkou vs yonkou fight and has to block attacks and parry. Which would make no sense if you can move at the speed of sound.

So that is what I mean by speed means nothing on a manga page because it doesn't make for interesting battles. Those singular feats of speed are cool but they don't hold up in a battle.

Yeah I agree. It's the same with kizaru, he can move at light speed but still gets hit. I think he has a reason for that which is his charge up time, but still it's the same idea. It's kinda a meta concept for manga in general

Shanks is probably as fast as naruto when he saved gai and kakashi. But in one piece speed can be rendered irrelevant with haki but also theres a problem there as well shanks also has godly haki to go with his speed so for the guy that had the big mom theory that doesn't make sense. Big mom just has incredible def increased by her haki. Shanks speed increases with his haki . kaidos power increases with his haki each yonko has a special ability or something they are probably the best at their haki amplifies this giving the impressions they are equals.thats my opinion

Enel is the faster chrachter obviously if I go down into the depths of your logic.

How is that? Lightning only moves at about 1/3 light speed. The charge up time for kizaru as of right now is really an unknown but I still dont see how that would mean enel is faster. To be clear, fast to me means top speed, quick means faster to get to top speed. Kizaru got from marine HQ to Saobody in no time which i think is the more relevant feat. Another thing to note is that he attacked X-Drake after, kicking scratch man, without a charge time. Literally kicked scratchman and disappeared and was kicking drake.
