[PS4] Question about Telltale Walking Dead Season 3

I just finished it and while it was an OK story I still dont understand why Clementine was in this? Its like the creators just put her there for no reason.
She could have easily been substituted with Mariana(girl from episode 1)

Since it was mainly about Kate/Gabe/Javi/David family drama, Clementine felt so out of place in the whole story.

It's alright it just leads up to Clem finding an maybe in a dlc then season 4 we'll play as Clem and maybe meet some old friends
