I mean, it doesn't make sense. Shisui, for one, just plucked his eye out. So did Madara to Kakashi. And Rin to Obito. And Madara to Obito. And Madara to Madara. And Danzo to himself. And Danzo to Shisui. And Genjutsu Itachi to Sasuke....yet removing an eye never left a scar. The only scar we see it was to Kakashi from a surprise attack, and that was not an attempt to pluck the eye out.

That scar indicates that he transplanted a Byakugan which is NOT his (just like Kakashi's Sharingan). Nothing in the Manga suggests that he had any special eye of his own prior to his confrontation with Kawaki.

This is kinda what I was thinking(it didn't make much sense) they even had him keep it closed until usage a la borrowed eye(although he could of just been activating it) it's been so long since that scan came out and his eye reveal in the anime I kinda just thought they changed their minds on his eye and when he got it

I'd go with restoration out of those 2, where would he get another identical eye? Even toneri's(hanabi's) tensaigan didn't have a black around it
