One that showcases the series, hints at more and sells it to a viewer in just one episode.

Code Geass R1E1was pretty decent. I pretty much told myself that I never was into such genre but then one time I had a peek on CG and it changed my life forever.

For me its Sword Art Online. Never has the start of an anime made me feel so hyped for the upcoming journey.....

...and never has an anime disappointed me so hard. Makes you wonder where all that potential went.

People always say SAO and I remember being really hooked on the first episode also but looking back wasn't it just a 15 minute exposition dump with a huge cast of nobodies we never meet again? Such a shame, I agree.

I 97% agree. Alfheim kind of started ruining it for me. And it went pretty much downhill with Gungale. Although Sinon was great, really. I also think Asuna being kind of sidelined did it bad.

In retrospect, yeah...but by itself its still a great opening. It really got across the claustrophobia of being trapped in a game and all the sense of urgency with it, plus Kirito wasn't the blank slate the series came to obsess over back then.

Samurai Champloo also had a good opening episode.... it's just had straight up style, hell the whole show did
Beat me to it. Samurai Champloo started off wonderfully, and kept it up for the entire run. Aside from that, one punch man was pretty damn awesome too. And tokyo ghoul.

Naruto no doubt. No other anime hooked me so hard on the first episode. Naruto from that episode basically was me at that time of my life so it resonated greatly and my personality took a turn for the better since then. No other anime managed to do that.

The only one to come close was the first episode of original Yu-Gi-Oh! The weak boy turning into a badass master of card games worked so good back then.
