Blame!(Pronounced blam) is a cyberpunk manga written and illustrated by Tsutomu Nihei, it's great, pretty unique as far as I know and the world is amazing, but I don't see it mentioned or talked about a lot as is the case for many manga and anime that aren't very manga-ish and anime-ish, Example: Evangelion.

So I've made this thread.

What is Blame! about?
I don't know, it begins with Killy, out protagonist making his way through the 'city' an endlessly expanding mega-structure by builders(that who knows once maybe were made by humans) keep expanding endlessly while terminating humans consider them as illegal immigrants. Who is at the top? The authority. What is the Authority? No one knows, the authority is the authority, it's always been.

Once Killy passed an empty space as long as Jupiter's diameter.

Nihie has also created other manga, following is Biomega.

Biomega is story of a dystopian world where N5S virus has been accidentally broke out creating corrupted humans of all sorts instead of curing all diseases, Zoichi Kano the protagonist on his heavily technologically advanced bike along with AI Fuyu Kanoe sets out to pursue one girl who is the hope accompanied by her bear bodyguard, at some point there are jets, and missiles in stratosphere being blown up by manhandled weapons from surface, and mars.

I thought the art style looked familiar..

I've read Biomega so I'm glad to know the same mangaka has another piece of art for me to indulge myself in.
I'll give it a try, thanks :)

(every now and then an actual good thread pops up)

So I just saw this on nettflix, while going through it, didn't see if it was a movie or a a series. Have you seen this ? If so is it a good anime to start with before the manga ? I love cyberpunk but I love watching their anime.

Btw the art is beautiful, imma do more research on this and give it a go.

There is a 6+1 episode anime made in 2007 or something, but it's not that great, I have seen the movie, it's great in terms of visual, but I think they made Killy into grumpy silent type protagonist, which he isn't in manga.

With that said, there aren't any anime options left, I don't think you'll spoil anything by watching the movie first.
Start with the manga I guess, it's not like we get any backstory, it's like this -the world blame has megastructure for what we have sky, mountains, rivers etc. You're not getting any explanation for that stuff.

I'll check the anime on Netflix to see if I like the story, not a fan of that heavy black art style that a lot of these type of manga seem to use.

This one looks good

but the other ones don't really do it for me.

I'll check the movie sometime this week and give a couple chapters a try during The Weeknd

Read the manga before you watch anime/movie. You may get confused otherwise. It's a very short manga - some 65 chapters only.

Writer and editors had also published some text as the making of Blame while the series was ongoing and the translation for that is available here in case you guys would like to check out the manga and understand the mechanism of this universe better:

There is a sort of prequel to this manga : Noise. or rather a pilot concept. It was interesting to read Noise after reading Blame to see how the story developed in the end.
