Yeah I remember this in the manga when I te read it , since their goal is pretty big there was no way he was gonna let it end there. But Yimir saved them

Seemingly. But when he shifts later in the Manga, he's can do it with enough force to nearly wipe out an area about the size of Castle Utgard with his transformation alone. If he really wanted to transform, that would be incredibly overkill in that situation, and it would have a good chance of killing Reiner, even with all his Plot Armour.
