Why would WB try to protect Squard's feelings? He literally tells Ace when Ace bows to him that he's a man who sees no use for soft words. Whitebeard said the stab didn't hurt, and there's zero reason to doubt his word.

The stab is something that WB can easily shake off as if nothing happened. Its no different from Luffy getting a hole jabbed in him from Lucci & is still lively or Zoro getting stabbed from 3 shigans. The wound was superficial compared to what WB can endure before he kicks the bucket.

WB wasn't 100% when he first faced off against AKainu but the stab was superficial compared to what WB can take. Riker's making a mistake by saying it didn't hurt him as if it didn't do any damage. It did do damage but not enough to sneeze about since it took losing half his face, a 2 heart attacks, a hole in chest, 2000+ gunshots, 1000+ stabs & slashes & 70+ cannons to kill him.
