He was also able to hold Orochimaru's soul for an hour long despite being stabbed through the chest by the Sword of Kusangi.

Overtime, yes. But like think about it

Chidori pierces the target, but unless the person using Chidori aims at the heart, lung, head, or any other critical part of the body. They won't die immediately, like right as soon as the technique hits.

It's the same for Rasengan, they aren't one shot killers unless you make it so.

But techniques like Bijuu Bomb, PS, FRS, Kirin, etc. can kill on contact if you don't have protection

but the originals were definitely killed...so I have no idea...I just know that based on terminology you can't "revive" dead people and have them still be classified as "dead"...especially when they walk talk and breathe after the fact
