Byakugan always had potential from the get go. I mean, when you have an all-seeing eye, the ability to destroy chakra, the ability to blow up someone from the inside, and the ability to blow away physical attacks all within 50 or so chapters of being introduced, you're already far too OP. I mean, lmao, just look at how Kaguya and Momoshiki were taken out... both by surprise attacks that they should have seen coming due to the Byakugan, but no, it's ignored because creating a villain with so much power who can't even be defeated by a sneak attacks is ludicrous. Or look how Neji was taken out despite being able to use Kaiten to block those wooden spears. Or how Hinata wasn't able to tell Obito's and Kakashi's sharingans had the same chakra, like how Ao did with Danzo and Shisui. Or how the Gentle Fists's ability to blow up creatures from the inside out is only shown once. Their abilities are cockblocked constantly because, conceptually, they are way over the top.
