The Vanishing Rasegan is cool, but I imagine it's not reliable like the standard rasengan and Naruto's variants.

The thing is that he did it so young, and not even on purpose. The boy is naturally gifted.

You could say he is really skilled which is a part of it but plot is also a part. In most stories like this techniques take a long time when first learned but later on others learn it much faster to speed the plot along. It's like how super saiyan became super easy for even kids to learn later on in DBZ. They did not want to drag him learning it out for a month. Plus him somehow learning a way to create an invisible rasengan without even trying to do so was just a half ass plot excuse to even try to justify Boruto's inclusion in a fight he had no part being in.

Because he's a prodigy, not only that but he has two variants of it that be the rasengan, and his own the vanishing rasengan or what sasuke calls it the disappearing rasengan.

Boruto is a prodigy. The only reason he is not stronger than he is is because he lacked the motivation to train and is constantly looking for shortcuts. If he put his mind to it however, he could easily reach very high levels. Just think about it. This kid has three elements under his belt and was able to take up the Jyuuken without using the Byakugan. He is a genius, he just doesn't work for it that often.

Now that he received the proper development however, he might start actively training, and with Sasuke as his tutor, great things are in store for Boruto in the future.s

He created his own jutsu. The Vanishing Rasengan counts, and there's no narrative where the story counts the Rasengan variant as 'not his own jutsu'

Hiruzen has shown to have excellent durability feats at age 69 with his Kage Bunshin as one of his clones was stabbed by Hashirama with 4 Kunai in the chest yet did not disperse until Hiruzen was done with it. He was also able to hold Orochimaru's soul for an hour long despite being stabbed through the chest by the Sword of Kusangi.

Even past his Prime, Hiruzen had showed excellent Close Quarter Combat skills. Moments after sealing parts of his soul away to seal the Edo Hokage and exhausting his remaining Chakra on Kage Bunshin, he was still able to easily disarm Orochimaru from his Sword of Kusangi with great ease and catch him to prepare his sealing Jutsu. He was also able to easily break through the Shinju branches and save Naruto despite Tobirama and Minato unable to get through.

boruto's a prodigy. and he's learning a jutsu not inventing it. It only took naruto a couple of weeks to get the basics of rasengan down despite being a dumbass, and to add to that boruto has better teachers. Jman didn't do much for any of his pupils who were either a)naturally gifted (minato and nagato)
or b)had other teachers to fall back on(naruto had kakashi, toad sages, killer b and eventually kurama, to teach him)
