Shinreitejutsu (Psychic Surgery)​

This skill is used to perform major surgical procedures. Unlike normal RL surgery this skill does not require instruments. The Medical Shinobi literally inserts their bare hands into the patient, by using an advanced version of the process used in the Extraction method you learned earlier in your training. To do this, you will place a hand on the body/skin of your patient and use your chakra to gently separate the cells and make an opening for you to enter the body, without actually making an incision in the flesh and damaging any tissue or severing blood vessels. This involves you making a controlled break in the the cytoskeletal (more on that in a second) structure of the skin and then triggering the cells around this break to migrate away from that spot, creating a controlled "orifice" in the patient while otherwise leaving them unharmed. You will need this opening to be able to use a technique which will heal the damaged tissue, since it is required to keep your palms just above the tissue that needs repairing. It will also give you the chance to move tissue around with your hands; like you would need to do if you're dealing with a complex bone fracture which can't be fixed with the Bone healing method simply because there are a lot of fragments.

(Iryō Ninjutsu: Soshiki Bunri) Medical Technique: Tissue Separation

Description: The user places a palm on the patients body, pouring their chakra into the tissue, gently moving it apart to create an opening to allow him to perform surgery on the patients internal organs without creating an incision. In fact, the technique separates tissue in a non traumatic way, avoiding damage and relinquishing the need to heal the tissue afterwards. The opening closes virtually instantly after the chakra input is stopped. However, even if it doesn't do damage, the usage of the technique causes tremendous pain to the patient so the use of anaesthetics before the procedure is highly recommendable.
Note: User must have their hand on the patient for a full turn before this takes affect and must maintain constant physical contact and chakra supply to maintain it. However, the technique can be done in tandem with others such as chakra scapel or mystical palm.

The difficulty of this procedure depends greatly on the exact kind of operation being performed. It is even possible to remove an organ with this procedure in the event that it has been too severely damaged to repair. Note that in the process of using this technique, you don't damage the patient as you are instead manipulation the nerves, blood vessels etc; so that they move out of your way. This technique, though, because it doesn't actually do damage, to make incisions or remove tissue, you'll need to use at the same time, chakra scape and mystic palm, cutting and healing. This technique doesn't allow you to remove or cut tissue and thus has a limit.

As most people do tend to ask; Yes, you can use this to simply reach into your opponent and pull out their heart, however you would have to keep your hand on them for one full turn before you are able to even touch their heart so in combat, this is not effective.

Most surgery requires hours of exhausting work by the Medical Shinobi and only when there is no other choice should such a procedure be attempted in the field. To repair any damage done to the internal organs of the patient, you must use your chakra to reinforce the cytoskeleton of the tissue, re-knitting the flesh to its original state.

The cytoskeleton is essentially made up of proteins that lie in the membranes of each cell and protrude long chain molecules into the space between cells, allowing them to communicate, transfer materials through certain processes and the part you need, allowing cells to bind to each other, forming tissues. Using your chakra, you will stimulate the cell membranes, moving them closer to each other and then stimulating the cytoskeleton to rebind the cells back into the original, intact tissue.

This is essentially a far more complex version of the bone healer skill you learned previously but still a weaker version to Mystic Palm. And on a more broad scale, allowing you to bind tissue and not just bone.

Description: The user will focus chakra through one of his hands, forcefully making separated tissue (cuts, severed body parts, etc) to bind together. First, the user wills his chakra to physically bind the tissue together, only to then force the cells to bind together as they were before the trauma. By manipulating the Inter-cellular proteins on the surface of the cells to re-knit the tissue cytoskeleton. The technique can only bind cells and tissue together if there hasn't been any tissue loss. However, it can be used to even reattach cut limbs or body parts, assuming these were cut clean.
Note: For this technique to have effect, an actual separation between cells that were once together must be present. This technique will not work on uninjured tissue.

Now just to clarify on how the technique works; you are manually performing a process the body performs naturally. Cellular tissue in the early stages of development, such as during fetal growth or in the development of new blood vessels, migrates and binds to cells similar to it, therefore with this technique, it is important to realise that cells perform this as part of their natural functions and therefore you merely "encourage" this using your chakra to stimulate the cells movement and cytoskeletal binding, rather than using your chakra to force them together.

You are able to use this healing method on yourself as long as you can see, sense and know exactly what you're doing. However the issue is, if you require surgery (and this is a method for extended and deep surgery), you normally aren't in a good enough shape to perform one on yourself; thus meaning performing it on yourself might not be possible. It is, however, an excellent method for removing foreign objects or stopping internal bleedings, as examples. Just don't forget to take an anesthetic first.

If you were to try to use (Iryō Ninjutsu: Seru Soutei) Medical Technique: Cell Binding to attempt to rejoin a body cut cleanly in two, there would be some issues. For one, you can't have tissue loss nor can you have tissue movement. Your internal organs would move out of the position they were when it was cut and prevent you from "welding" it back together perfectly.
That is not to say you can't rejoin parts of a body using this technique; it can be done for Arms, legs, and similar but not for parts where once cut and detached, they change and end up not mirroring each other.

Although this lesson does not traditional teach you the "Chakra Scalpel" technique, it does indeed mention it as one of the requirements to more or less complete the lesson, so I will be teaching it to you guys here. Although it is a bummer that you require so many hand signs to activate, at least it is something that can be sustained for prolonged amount of time so long as you have the chakra to fuel it. This technique, glads your hands in chakra as you focus it in order to create blades with your hands in order to cut things. This technique is commonly used to perform surgery but it can be used offensively. In terms of surgical use, it is very useful as it can be used similar to diagnosis in the sense that you channel your chakra into your patient and cut internally without wounding the outside tissue. This of course will require physical contact and its not something that you channel from afar to perform. To cut bone and to be on the safe side, you'd have to use the A-Ranked application of the technique, and to combat Dead-Bone Pulse, because this technique is concentrated ninjutsu, it would play on equal terms unless the bone technique has some specific qualities.

(Iryō Ninjutsu: Chakra no Mesu) Medical Technique: Chakra Scalpel

Description: Chakra no Mesu is a special Ninjutsu technique used by medical ninjas. After forming the needed hand seals Tiger → Horse → Rabbit → Rat → Dog, the ninja will focus chakra to their hands. This medical technique then enables the users chakra to transform into small, sharp blades. This can then be used for highly accurate incisions necessary for surgeries and anatomical dissections. Unlike regular metal scalpels, the chakra scalpel can make cuts inside the body without actually creating an open wound, limiting the risks of an infection (although it can also be used to cut the external tissues as well). The chakra scalpel can also be used offensively, although it requires great precision to be effective. Because of this requirement, using the chakra scalpel offensively is highly unusual. In heated combat, even the greatest medical-nin won't be able to exert the precision needed to make fatal cuts, but it can still effectively cut muscle tissues and tendons, rendering the target immobile. Adding to the technique's blade like quality, it also appears to give the user an increased level of durability over their chakra clad hands. The strength and effects of the technique are determined by how much chakra is put into it and how much skill and focus the user has in the technique. Its effects vary according to the targeted body though to cut through strong tissues such as bone, great skill, focus and chakra is needed. The effect can be sustained while the user focuses chakra into it.

Priest's Patient: Your patient's left arm was sliced in half through the center of the humerus. The end still tied to the patient was cauterized by fire to stop the bleeding, however the patient's body temperature dropped severely from the blood loss as well as fell unconscious. The other end of the arm, the one that was cut off, suffered nerve damage on a microscopic level and is currently being kept cold on a cooler so it can be re-attached. On top of it all, the patient has fallen pray to a Tsyukomi illusion. Please perform surgery on the patient and solve all the issues with everything you've learned thus far.

Mudo's Patient: The patient's epiglottis was punctured by a wooden kunai that released small shards of wood within a small radius around the aforementioned area, severely blocking the user's airway. The left side of the chest area is caved in with broken ribs and severe tissue damage which caused internal bleeding, quickly feeling the lungs with blood, making it hard for the patient to bread. The strike was medically enhanced, which caused a chain-reaction that spread through the lungs, beginning to kill them on a cellular level with cancerous cells. You have to take care of the most important issues first and then perform more complex surgery by doing a lung transplant (Lungs available in the freezer near you). The procedure will be difficult as you need to find a way and process to remove the lung(s) either together or separately and deliver oxygen to the body to keep the blood flowing and breathing.

This will be the last lesson we move onto the rest of the Medical Ninjutsu Techniques, so please make it count guys and incorporate a lot of the things you've learned throughout the courses. I want you to be as descriptive as possible and amaze me! No simple descriptions! This is a real surgery and I expect to see a full fledged "medical-like" response.

Getting to the ward where the patient is situated, I noticed the patient. Mere seeing his condition, I could see his left arm was cleanly cut off. The patient is not awake. Not enough information, Priest thought. He would begin by running aggressive chakra to clean himself. This is followed by cleaning the patient too. After cleaning the patient, Priest goes ahead and felt the patient's pulse, trying to see if he's still breathing or his heart is beating. After manually making sure the patient is just unconcious, he would begin to run chakra through him to diagnose the cause and extent of his injury or ailment. He would notice the severed arms, severe blood loss, hypothermia and disturbed/damaged chakra network probably from a powerful genjutsu strong enough to leave the man unconscious. The patient's temperature also dropped.

Description: The medical shinobi fills his palms with small

hands and lower arms just before having contact with a
patient but can be applied to the whole body in specific
situations (before performing surgery, if the enemy is highly

Having noted all that has happened, Priest knew the patient needs immediate attention in some of the diagnosed fault. One being the low blood count. This could lead to weak flow of blood into the heart and could cause heart failure. Immediately, Priest would summon a blood/fluid transfusion kit. He would bit his right thumb, smear the blood upon his palm and summon this. Having done that, he would wash his hands with sterilised water, apply and band aid over the opening and cleaning all of himself once again.

Description: The medical Ninja will bite his thumb and do
the summoning handseals before pressing his palm on the
scroll. He will summon any of the medical tools he needs

Band Aid

Priest would open the freezer to get ready made pints of blood(2). He would connect them together and begin infusion of the blood into the patient while using his chakra to turn the blood into the patient's exact blood type. As the blood is pumping into the patient, Priest places his hands on his body and through this, insert chakra to fastening the heart rate, blood vessels and the thyroid glad thus raising the body temperature to the normal body temperature. This would also aid the the smooth circulation and assimilation of blood into the vessels and the circulatory system.

(Iryō Ninjutsu: Rinkai Roppou) Medical Technique: Temperature rise

Description: The user will place both of his hands on the
patients body, and insert a fair amount of his chakra into the
patient. He or she will then will/make the chakra affect the
heart (fastening the heart rate), the blood vessels
(constricting them rising the blood pressure) and the thyroid
gland (inducing faster release of hormones that enhance the
metabolism). As result the body temperature will rise to
37°C (or 98,6°F).
Note: user must be a master of Diagnosis

Priest decided to treat the severed arm while the patient is still unconscious, to reduce the pain and trauma of treatment. Collecting the arm from the freezer, Priest cleanse it too before placing in near the other half. However before he starts his surgery, he would put together what he had diagnosed about it. The one connected to the patient was burned while the spare was damage on the area that was cut. Priest would place his hands on the cauterized wound, slowly separating the tissue from the damaged ones from the burn. He would at the same time, begin to create new cells by stimulating the cytoskeleton to rebind the cells back to its original state. He would do the same to the spare half, rebulding every damage tissue and nerves. At the end, he would join both halfs together while focusing chakra to bind the tissues together, which comprises of the bones, flesh and nerves. After this, Priest double checks using diagnosis to see if the arm is in good working condition before moving to the next step.

Next, Priest would deal with the disturbed chakra flow. He would place his hands on his chest and use his chakra to calm the patient's chakra and restore balance to it. This would dispel any genjutsu the patient might be in but he would still be unconscious.

(Iryo Ninjutsu: Modosu Heikō) Medical Technique: Restore Balance

Description: When facing a patient with a chakra disturbance
or an abnormal chakra flow, the medical ninja will place his
hand on the patients chest and use his chakra to calm and
retore the normal flow of chakra of the patient. This
technique can essentially dispel chakra abnormalities and
allow for healing techniques to work better. The result is
leaving the patients chakra in a calm and healthy flow.
Additionally, as a side effect, this technique leaves the
patient complete calm and relaxed, without pain or stiffness.
It can also be used to dispel Genjutsu the patient might be
under the influence of, including Doujutsu Genjutsu and
pure Yin Release techniques. The medical ninja, however,
cannot use this on himself.

Priest would now try to resuscitate the patient by placing his hands on his chest, left hand on the heart while the right would be below the arm pit to the sides of the heart. By sending electric signal to the heart, the Patient's consciousness would be jump-started.

(Iryō Raikō Ninjutsu: Ikazuchi Te) Lightning Medical Technique: Medical Thunder Hands

Description: A technique used to reset the hearts electrical
frequency and pace or to induce it. In other words, this
technique is the medical ninjas version of a defibrilator. The
medical ninja will charge up electricity on both his hands
and press them on the patient. The left hand must be
directly on top of the heart and the right hand on the side,
beneath the armpit of the patient. As the electricity is
discharged, the electric pace of the heart is either
normalized or restarted. The technique can be used in
healthy targets as a way to induce abnormal electric paces
and if done repeatedly can even cancel it completely. While
the technique is effective, it has to be used in between the
use of chakra CPR to have some chance of success and even
so, only 1 every 3 uses will be successful depending on the
targets conditions.

Finally Priest would run yang chakra throughout the body of the patient to heal minor injuries he might have missed and to heal the patients mental trauma and fatigue.

(Iryō Ninjutsu: Shōsen Jutsu) Medical Technique: Mystic Palm Technique

Description:
This medical ninjutsu allows the user to speed up the body's
natural healing process by focusing mainly Yang chakra onto
their hands, forming an aura of greenish healing chakra
which he then sends into a wound or afflicted body part.
This allows the user to heal a patient without the need for
medical equipment or surgery, making it very useful on the
battlefield. It can be used to treat both external and internal
injuries. It is vital to match the amount of chakra used to the
severity of the affliction or injury. This requires a great
amount of chakra control. Because of this, only a few highly
skilled medical-nin are able to use this technique. The
limitation of the technique is that it cannot regrow missing
body parts or deal with poisons or toxins, though it can heal
its damage. Additionally, perhaps its more severe drawback
is the chakra cost, which, as the technique stands as a jack
of all trades in terms of medical ninjutsu, is much higher
than any other medical technique. For each damage point
the user of the technique wishes to heal he needs to spend
twice as much chakra. Basically, for X amount of damage the
user needs to spend 2X amount of chakra to repair/heal. The
user can also use this technique on himself and it can be
used with one hand or two and even in two targets at a time
or while using another technique with the other hand. The
speed of the healing is fast but not instant, specially in
internal injuries.

Priest turns the report of the surgery over to his sensei.

This was it. The end of an arduous journey was in sight, and Corvo was committed to seeing it through to the best of his ability. With the patient rolled in, Corvo quickly performed Teikouryoku to increase his resistance to pathogens and natural toxins through passive-aggressive chakra; he does this by focusing on his core while simultaneously visualizing a yellow and warm aura exude from his center. With his resistance increased, he begins to cleanse himself of all exterior impurities by running a minute amount of aggressive chakra from his palms and gliding it along his body. Afterward, he increases the radius of the chakra from his palms and tones down its aggressiveness, running it over the patient's body, with special focus on the open wounds that could be visually seen. This would destroy any pathogens or microorganisms present on the surface of the body as a deterrent for any infections to occur. He would take the time out at this point to perform Shindan, using his hands and chakra to diagnose the internal state of the patient's body. Their blood pressure and heart rate was high, no doubt as a result of the airway obstruction making it near impossible for them to breathe properly; extreme shortness of breath, essentially. He had also determined through Shindan that the patient's lungs were filled with blood as a result of the strike inflicted on the left side of the thoracic cavity. Corvo was quick to act and began to treat the most life-threatening injury, rationalizing that getting the patient to start breathing normally was imperative before performing surgery. Through the use of Tekishutsu, he would place his palm in the area surrounding the epiglottis and use his chakra to manipulate the tissue around the punctured area. This removed the wooden kunai and its shrapnel carefully without causing any further damage; at the same time, he performs Keksuki Gyouko to aid in the natural coagulation of the blood in the area of the small wound. This would buy Corvo ample time to move onto stopping the major internal bleeding and healing of the cancerous cells. Shifting his hands over toward the wound on the left side of the patient's body, he inserts his hands within using Tissue Separation while simultaneously performing the Mystic Palm technique to heal the damaged tissue, along with the damaged cells. He ran this heavy, yang natured chakra in tandem with his insertion of the hands via Tissue Separation to more closely monitor and heal the injured areas. Using Tekishutsu upon insertion of the hands earlier would similarly ensure that the internal bleeding would cease as well. Finally, Corvo begins to work on repairing the damaged rib cage bones by taking advantage of his hands being within the body to more easily manually set the bones, before using the Bone Healer skill to stimulate the osteocytes into "welding" the portions of the bones that had snapped back together.

Afterward, Corvo continued to move on to the major surgery. With the continuous use of Tissue Separation, he would move his hands toward the lung area and perform the Chakra Scalpel technique to sever one of the lungs from its attached point, controlling the bleeding with Tekishutsu. He would remove the left lung from the body first, before inserting a new lung and attaching it to the point where it was severed moments earlier through the Cell Binding technique. The new lung would allow his patient to breath better and more calmly so that he could continue to replace the second one; he repeats this same process with the damaged right lung. With the surgery completed, he retracts his hands from the body, and finalizes the procedure by using the Mystic Palm technique to mend the small wound that resulted in the patient's epiglottis to become obstructed.

Getting to the ward where the patient is situated, I noticed the patient. Mere seeing his condition, I could see his left arm was cleanly cut off. The patient is not awake. Not enough information, Priest thought. He would begin by running aggressive chakra to clean himself. This is followed by cleaning the patient too. After cleaning the patient, Priest goes ahead and felt the patient's pulse, trying to see if he's still breathing or his heart is beating. After manually making sure the patient is just unconcious, he would begin to run chakra through him to diagnose the cause and extent of his injury or ailment. He would notice the severed arms, severe blood loss, hypothermia and disturbed/damaged chakra network probably from a powerful genjutsu strong enough to leave the man unconscious. He would bit his right thumb, smear the blood upon his palm and summon this. Having done that, he would wash his hands with sterilised water, apply and band aid over the opening and cleaning all of himself once again.

Priest would open the freezer to get ready made pints of blood(2). He would connect them together and begin infusion of the blood into the patient while using his chakra to turn the blood into the patient's exact blood type. As the blood is pumping into the patient, Priest places his hands on his body and through this, insert chakra to fastening the heart rate, blood vessels and the thyroid glad thus raising the body temperature to the normal body temperature. This would also aid the the smooth circulation and assimilation of blood into the vessels and the circulatory system.

Priest decided to treat the severed arm while the patient is still unconscious, to reduce the pain and trauma of treatment. Collecting the arm from the freezer, Priest cleanse it too before placing in near the other half. However before he starts his surgery, he would put together what he had diagnosed about it. The one connected to the patient was burned while the spare was damage on the area that was cut. Priest would place his hands on the cauterized wound, slowly separating the tissue from the damaged ones from the burn. He would at the same time, begin to create new cells by stimulating the cytoskeleton to rebind the cells back to its original state. He would do the same to the spare half, rebulding every damage tissue and nerves. At the end, he would join both halfs together while focusing chakra to bind the tissues together, which comprises of the bones, flesh and nerves. After this, Priest double checks using diagnosis to see if the arm is in good working condition before moving to the next step.

For the most part, you did a good job. I do have to note to things. At the beginning of our procedure, unless I missed it, you didn't raise your natural resistance, which could have affected you throughout the surgical procedure. And the other part was the blood transfusion, where your freely converted the blood you were transfusing without using any form of technique. Even if you got the blood from a container, you have to perform the technique to perform the actual conversion process to make it the same blood type. And ideally, it would have been best, to heal the cauterized portion of the arm before uniting them together, but it wasn't a do or do. Over all you did a good job and you have an understanding of the techniques!

This was it. The end of an arduous journey was in sight, and Corvo was committed to seeing it through to the best of his ability. With the patient rolled in, Corvo quickly performed Teikouryoku to increase his resistance to pathogens and natural toxins through passive-aggressive chakra; he does this by focusing on his core while simultaneously visualizing a yellow and warm aura exude from his center. With his resistance increased, he begins to cleanse himself of all exterior impurities by running a minute amount of aggressive chakra from his palms and gliding it along his body. Afterward, he increases the radius of the chakra from his palms and tones down its aggressiveness, running it over the patient's body, with special focus on the open wounds that could be visually seen. This would destroy any pathogens or microorganisms present on the surface of the body as a deterrent for any infections to occur. He would take the time out at this point to perform Shindan, using his hands and chakra to diagnose the internal state of the patient's body. Their blood pressure and heart rate was high, no doubt as a result of the airway obstruction making it near impossible for them to breathe properly; extreme shortness of breath, essentially. He had also determined through Shindan that the patient's lungs were filled with blood as a result of the strike inflicted on the left side of the thoracic cavity. Corvo was quick to act and began to treat the most life-threatening injury, rationalizing that getting the patient to start breathing normally was imperative before performing surgery. Through the use of Tekishutsu, he would place his palm in the area surrounding the epiglottis and use his chakra to manipulate the tissue around the punctured area. This removed the wooden kunai and its shrapnel carefully without causing any further damage; at the same time, he performs Keksuki Gyouko to aid in the natural coagulation of the blood in the area of the small wound. This would buy Corvo ample time to move onto stopping the major internal bleeding and healing of the cancerous cells. Shifting his hands over toward the wound on the left side of the patient's body, he inserts his hands within using Tissue Separation while simultaneously performing the Mystic Palm technique to heal the damaged tissue, along with the damaged cells. He ran this heavy, yang natured chakra in tandem with his insertion of the hands via Tissue Separation to more closely monitor and heal the injured areas. Using Tekishutsu upon insertion of the hands earlier would similarly ensure that the internal bleeding would cease as well. Finally, Corvo begins to work on repairing the damaged rib cage bones by taking advantage of his hands being within the body to more easily manually set the bones, before using the Bone Healer skill to stimulate the osteocytes into "welding" the portions of the bones that had snapped back together.

Afterward, Corvo continued to move on to the major surgery. With the continuous use of Tissue Separation, he would move his hands toward the lung area and perform the Chakra Scalpel technique to sever one of the lungs from its attached point, controlling the bleeding with Tekishutsu. He would remove the left lung from the body first, before inserting a new lung and attaching it to the point where it was severed moments earlier through the Cell Binding technique. The new lung would allow his patient to breath better and more calmly so that he could continue to replace the second one; he repeats this same process with the damaged right lung. With the surgery completed, he retracts his hands from the body, and finalizes the procedure by using the Mystic Palm technique to mend the small wound that resulted in the patient's epiglottis to become obstructed.

Splendid job! I love how you incorporated every pit of the training lessons, like how you raised your resistance and the steps necessary to clean yourself and your patient, well done. The details you included in the procedure with each technique that you used, instantly reminded me of our training, and I saw that you paid attention (Or re-read everything!) down to the smallest of details, like using your hands to move the ribs as close together as possible so you could weld them. The only thing that I would have liked to see was a way to drain the blood from the lungs. Yeah, you were to transfer them out for new ones, but throughout the lengthy time that it took you to do the first steps, no more oxygen would have been pumping through the brains and the patient likely suffered a lot of brain damage. Not only that but he would have been coughing up a lot of blood, close to suffocating/choking depending on how he was stationed. (Likely laying over) So they uncontrollable coughing of blood would have led to a lot of problems. It was a smart idea to heal the wind pipe first, however it would have been wiser to deal with the lungs that were filled with blood first and then applied the oxygen supply technique to keep them alive while you finished the transplant. Remember that the most important thing for the body is oxygen, so in those minutes that the patient was no longer breathing due to his blood filled lungs, he was receiving a lot of cellar damage, specially in his brain. Not only that but after the overflow of blood from the mouth, the rest would have been swallowed, giving you another problem to solve as keeping a large volume of blood inside the stomach isnt safe either.

Overall, you both did a great job, I was able to see how you handled the situation and utilized the techniques. A few things here and there, perhaps move the puzzle pieces in the order they are performed, differently the next time. But over all, it grants a pass for the surgical procedure!
