The issue is that the Philippines is poor as shit so people use drugs because they can't find work or hate their life
The problem isn't the drugs its that the country is shit

It's not about that the President is allowing the police to legally kill drug dealers and users.

Those allegedly drug dealers/killers who got killed during operation, are also killed by their own gang who wants them dead because they don't wanna get caught when they are caught and try to drag their names!

Also, some who died during the operation fought back with the police... so they're just defending themselves (police).

Not just those poor people, although those who are underprivelege are really pityful in these drug on wars because rich people can either be out of country or I don't know, if you're rich you can get away with things even when there's a law. But the thing is the President, is naming all the rich people including in businesses and politics to shame them and confess on their own. Having investigation etc. Of course, no one will confess. Haha. But there are evidences and witnesses. It's a long process.

Also, religious people says that they shouldn't kill them because only God should judge them and that they deserve second chance to change into good people. But what about those people who they victimized while under the influence of drugs??? Who's scarred all their lives.

I don't know. But I agree to the President. I know it's not easy and many innocent lives are sacrificing. But if it won't stop or even be less... the next generation will suffer much more.

I’m Filipino-American, so I often hear opinions of what actual Filipinos think. Based on the Filipinos I know, I noticed most of them actually think positively of Duterte. Some have said the streets in the Philippines now look safer because of the anti-drug campaign.

Also, the mainstream media isn’t saying the entire story. I hear non-Filipinos dumbfounded why Filipinos would elect someone like Duterte. The media doesn’t explain that many of the country’s problems stem from lack of discipline. If you're a known drug lord, you can get away with it by bribing the politicians or police. Even if they do go to jail, some of the prisons have been turned into palaces. Drug lords in the New Bilibid prison have been living lavishly with saunas and recording studios.

Look at this “prison” of the drug lords. How can drug trafficking be stopped with "consequences" like this?

With decades of corrupt and/or weak leaders, many felt that the only path to discipline is a strict president, somewhat like Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore. This is why Philippines elected Duterte by a landslide last year.

My main point is neither to support nor criticize Duterte. I just don't think international media should write opinionated articles, criticizing another country if these writers don't know the country's overall situation. The media makes it sound like an insane dictator hijacked the country and that all the citizens are crying in oppression, but Duterte currently has an 86% approval rating. I think the people who actually live in the Philippines know more than western journalists who we're not even sure can say Duterte’s name correctly.

Thanks for bringing more context to the issue I'm personally against drug culture but there alot of harmful things that are legal so it's what the people choose
