What was Sasuke even doing in Gaiden? He was in spitting distance of Konoha, but didn't bother to go there to see his family. Also, something about faux Akatsuki, retcon Hashi clones/Shins.

2 things if I understood correctly:
1) he wanted to see and experience the world he helped save to validate his decision to not kill the world leaders and basically subjugate everyone through fear. And to see what Naruto sees worth fighting for in this Ninja world.
2) He knew that being the last Uchiha and wieldeder of the Rinnegan would draw enemies to him and Naruto so he wanted to protect the village by drawing those would be enemies away from the Hidden Leaf. Also he was investigating the Otsutsuki at Naruto's request.....
Honestly I think he just doesn't like being around people in general lol.

His goal was to find the threat Kaguya feared, anyone with a brain would know it was his responsbility to do so instead of pretending that life is all rosy and there aren't anyore Otsutsuki out to attack Konoha.
And him defending the village against the meteorite proves that he always had an eye on the village and his family even when he was away. If he didn't spend majority of time searching dimensions the villages would have no intel on possible Otsutsuki attack and Naruto would've been killed because Sasuke wouldn't know which dimension to find them in.

When I was reading back it confirmed to me that Sasuke does more than just hunt Otsutsuki, but at the same time, he isn't always in places that are barren wastelands.
Meaning he could of sent Sakura a single text/message/etc, or Sarada, "Happy birthday" or "I love you"

We honestly don't know the details of Sasukes travels, doing things outside of gathering info on the up coming threat can vary from Spending time in of one kaguya's dimensions just for exploration (not all of them are wastelands) - meditating or training on secluded mountain top not accessible to technology - fishing on the moon ect.... So no can say with certainty that Sasuke was in reach of having the ability to directly contact anyone at any particular time during his 10+ year journey, like we can't say with certainty that Sasuke has never made contact with Sakura at any capacity but we can't dismiss the fact that there were clear opportunities for Sasuke to contact Sakura/Sarada. Either or is wishful thinking and can only be theorized based off how we each individually rationalize the manga but at least Sarada grew to get past his absence and accepted Sakura's claim that his feelings were connected to hers.

You've got to be retarded to think that Naruto would of died if Sasuke didn't partake in his mission because Naruto ended up getting captured despite them finding out early on that the threats were here. Sasuke literally prevented none of it, and another mistake is that NONE of them knew Killer Bee was captured and attacked.

And to make matters worse Sasuke couldn't decode the scroll's information without Naruto's help. So....
The real MVP here is Sasuke's Rinnegan S/T ability and Naruto/Decoding team.

The excuse Kishi and SP gave for what Sasuke was doing for the 14 years after chapter 699, was BS. Nothing Sasuke does in Gaiden or Boruto the movie leads them to the actual dimension Naruto was being held. Sasuke could've have done no quest at all, and Momo and Kinshiki would've come to the village anyway. Plus, Sasuke was in the village when Momo and Kin attacked and he did nothing to protect it or Naruto. As a final, it was Sasuke's rinnegan ability to track chakra (Naruto's) and his dimension hoping jutsu that allowed the rescue party to find Naruto.
This just screams of the same last minute addition to the story that Kaguya was and the extraterrestrial Ootsutsuki.

And Sasuke's knowledge of Otsutsuki dimension is what allowed them to rescue Naruto in the first place, if it wasn't for him spending a decade searching for the Otsutsuki dimension Naruto would've died before they eventually find the him.

Nope. Sasuke locked onto Naruto's chakra, THAT'S what allowed him to find Naruto. They have been connected through power since obtaining their Rikudou buffs. Go look up the scans of Naruto/Sasuke acknowledging they could sense each other from far distances when Kaguya tried to separate them, I don't wanna waste my time.

I would add, that Nagato also could sense chakra locations. It's how Itachi was able to find where Kabuto was, to undo the Edo Tensei.
So basically, everything Sasuke claimed he was doing after 699 was for nothing. Protecting the Leaf from the dark, when the Leaf has no canon enemies anymore. Except that meteor in The Last. He did a solid there. Still a deadbeat dad, and poor husband.
