Fact: Hiruzens title in the shinobi world was "God of Shinobi". It's shared only with Hashirama Senju!
Fact: Hiruzen is the only shinobi in series to display complete mastery over all 7 natures: Fire, Wind, Lightning, Earth, Water, Ying, & Yang!
Fact: Hiruzen is only shinobi in series to have a max score in the 5 core shinobi skill stats: Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, Genjutsu, Intelligence, & Seal Knowledge!
Fact: Hiruzens skills against Orochimaru was "miserable" compared to his prime: He was fighting three Hokages... at age 70!
Fact: Hiruzen would have certainly killed Orochimaru per the Sannins own words if he had been just 10 years younger: That's age 60... still an old man!

There is no denying Prime Hiruzens greatness. One cannot look at all of these facts and think he wasn't Godly in his prime. This man was a force unlike any other. It is believed Hanzo spared the Sannin just so that Hiruzen wouldn't come after him and end his life! Wow!
