I saw in a antentior thread that there are people who consider One Piece to be garbage anime/manga, why do you believe that? (I hope not because of art)

The anime isn't so great and it over extends scene & fights. Its gotten to the point where 1 chapter with like 7 minutes of content is extended for a 20 minute episode.

The manga is great but 98% who say its garbage are those who dropped it at the beginning so their opinions can't be taken seriously.

For people who think One Piece is trash need to read or watch Fairy Tail...then watch and see how One Piece becomes the best anime/manga in the world.

One piece manga is a very entertaining manga, art is very appropriate for the theme and the word trash is not fit for it at all. Is one of the best i've read. And i started reading from boredom, having the strong oppinion that is garbage. Now i think Oda sensei is a great mangaka in both, story and art.
Art is not just the beautiful real drawing or the old school manga drawing style with huge watery eyes, it can be a caricatural simple art which explain the author thoughts better. Is as hard to make like the other styles or even harder.

I never watched the anime but i watched the first 15 mins from the last movie and dropped it for lack of consistency.
So manga yes, is a worthy reading but anime i dont know...

Manga isn't garbage but the anime, yeah it is. I don't see how can you argue the anime as being good. It's poorly paced, dog shit animation most times and you get like 6 minutes or something devoted to the opening g/recap. Typical Toei stuff, they have some fetish for dragging out their animes.

It's an uninformed opinion. I look at it like this watching OP and dropping it before Alabasta and saying it sucks is like reading the first 20 pages of a 500 page book and saying it sucks.
Dude, your avatar has been bothering me for the longest, use this one, jesus christ

Off topic question...

Why is my username glowing? I didn't get any notification and it just started glowing...

On topic:
One Piece is at least above average if not excellent.

It's a personal preference. OP is not some kind of omnipotent series that encompasses all genres perfectly, such a manga doesn't exist. People who prefer horror, slice of life or psychological manga are probably less prone in liking OP. It's something personal and subjective.

That OP is more than a decent manga however, is something that can be more or less objectively supported. By default I assume that people who describe something like a manga as "trash", are people who are borderline illiterate, immature and are below the average human intellectual level. They reason if they use a word like "trash", which either has a derogatory meaning or refers to something disgusting, they can shock and insult. The reality though is that it's a hollow remark with no substance and is just another way of saying that they don't have the skill to give elaborate criticism, so they try to shock people to mask that.

IMO no manga deserves to be slandered like that. There should be something seriously wrong to deserve such a description and the reality that someone decided it was worthwhile to serialize it, and keep it serialized, means that that really is not the case.

And in regards to the anime, well it has some issues, but those are not inherent to OP as the exact same issues can be found in Bleach, Naruto and other animations. When you make an anime adaptation of a lengthy, running series, it's inevitable that the animation quality will not be that high and the problem of catching up to the series is permanently present.
