No joke but i think how inanimate objects have devil fruit abilities is through the process they were made because as someone mentioned they do not have mouths.
So for instance swords having devil fruits. I reckon, when creating a sword they crush the devil fruit or something then put it into the core of the sword? Idk lol. Although i do believe Vegapunk did it in this way or in a similar manner.

More along the lines with what I'm thinking right here. Maybe not literally, Idt you're being literal here either but I believe that Vegapunk is key here. That he helps infuse the DF into the sword somehow. I don't think Oda will limit just Zoans to being infused with inanimate objects, just seems unlikely tbh.

Or he just ate the fruit himself and as a swordsman, he mainly uses his sword as a way of using his power.

Don't u think it will be stupid enough to give a strong ability of controlling gravity to a sword rather than a guy who has one of the best Observation haki???

Also the idea his sword has the fruit discredits him winning the "lottery" or whatever it was called to be the new Admiral, what would happen if someone stripped him of his sword? I think that would be too risky of a call for the Marines to make.

True but that also could have been a case of them not knowing what fruit it was. Some fruits have been recognized and some haven't. It's viable that the scientists of the WG didn't know what the fruit was and that could have encouraged them to combine it with a sword as opposed to having someone in the Marines eat it.

Still though, I think Isshou ate it. The point of someone taking his sword and the main component of his ability mentioned above kinda seals that for me. It's like make the sword the admiral if that's the case lol

That's not the point here. Whenever somebody finds a df they either eats it or put it on sale(so somebody else can eat it).
Marines have tons of fodder character who can benefit from eating it rather than carring it(which has a good chance to get stolen while he/she is sleeping) lol.
