You've probably seen or heard of this video making its rounds around social media, if you haven't watch it or read the title. When I saw this, I was pissed at the fact this kind of shit is still going on in today's age. Me being mixed race Half black/half Hispanic, I have no other option, but to be against that kind rhetoric. But what pisses me off even more was how so many people shared the same sentiments as the guy in the video. And support was on both sides of the aisle, it wasn't just blacks, or whites, it was both. And I know this sort of sentiment isn't limited to blacks and whites, I've experienced this sort of reaction back when I was going out with this Indian girl back in high school. I think her parents were from Bangladesh, and they hated the fact that I was talking to their daughter. Of course they didn't say anything to me, but she would tell how her parents would get into heated arguments about seeing me.

Why are so many people against interracial relationships, like why does it matter???? Some people say it's to protect the future of their race, but like, what has "your race" done for you? Like as a collective? Honestly? "I'd be ashamed if my daughter married a man outside of our race" "Race mixing is absolutely degenerate" "Race traitors" "Swirling scum" This shit is ****ing disgusting. Why do people care so much about who other people f***?????

Yeah, I had to suffer through that as well. My last girlfriend was white and even though her father said that I'm cool, he didn't like the fact that I was black. He would say that all black people are thugs, monkeys, rapist, and criminals. He would also say that I would just get her pregnant and leave her behind.

It pissed me off. I'm not like that. I have no criminal record, I work, I go to school, and I'm just an ordinary citizen who is just trying to get by.

On the other hand, I also faced racism from my own people (I'm black). My so called friends hated when I chose my girlfriend over them and would disown me for dating a white girl. They stereotyped white females as loyal dogs as always with their sexual fantasies and would even try to hit on her, which would end up me beating their asses for it.

Then I almost got jumped by a group of black people for dating a white girl. I was called a sellout for it.

That's crazy, like I've know black people that say those kinds of things, but for them to go out of their way and try to attack you for it? That makes no damn sense.

And don't let me get started on all the girls, who were black. They hated that I was dating outside my race and would want to fight my girlfriend. Even my own grandmother told me not to date outside my race. It makes no sense at all. I hated that. That very fact and situation saddened me.

It traumatized me a little bit when suffering racism on both sides, because of my own preferences.

It's not necessarily a "race" thing but subjective. Marrying a person whose life style or values or religious beliefs, nationality and customs, sensibilities as a community etc are different than one's own may put an extra pressure on the couple; more so in case of close knit families and often leads to a disconnect with rest of the family tree. Although later may depend on how closely and strongly one is attached with that background and people in it.

It can work out great for some but in many cases a little more understanding and maturity maybe needed from both sides. Or you may end up like Severus Snape regretting one single negative comment for life.

I've actually experienced something similar with my ex her family loved me but her mom didn't approve of us being together because she was supposedly worried that a mixed child wouldn't fit in our society... also a lil off topic but I'm mixed and often get questioned what race I associate myself with like I have to be one to fit in. Do you guys get asked that as well?

I was referring to the point of break up of his and Lily's friendship.

And I was just allured by your reference to Harry Potter.

Lily was an angel.

I know they weren't religious, but maybe culture had something to do with it. That's a possibility

No one's ever really asked me that, once they find out I'm mixed the farthest they'll go is ask where my parents are from. Most people think I'm just a light skin black guy from the get go, so I don't get asked about my heritage all too much. Maybe it has something to do with your appearance; what are you mixed with if you don't mind me asking?

xd Harry Potter tho?

Anyway, it's sad that we cannot get over the past and stop feeding into stereotypes.

White/Black/Hispanic. Most people assume I'm black but it's usually other hispanics that ask if I have some hispanic heritage. My thing is I actually have people from all groups come up to me after I tell them I'm mixed and ask who I feel I represent/associate more with and my answer is always the same "I'm multiracial I don't associate myself as one or the other I'm me."

i believe firstly in freedom so you do what you want, but i also believe the same things this dude in the video is saying, i just wouldn't go out of my way to say them to people.

Truthfully i believe you have a deep hatred of self if you don't want to stay with your own race. I also see the other races as different sub-species so theres that

Right, because it's impossible to genuinely love someone who has a different skin color. Also, you hate yourself if you're in a relationship with someone with a different hair color.

you can love them, but you don't love yourself.

hair color doesn't work because the hair is still the same. Asian hair is different from white hair etc. Stop using shit analogies
