[Discussion] The Big Mom bet

In the latest manga discussion thread there is a split between people who believe Luffy will beat Big Mom this arc and people who think Big Mom will not fall this arc. LBeezy wanted to turn this into a bet, and here we are. The Great Big Mom Bet of 2017.

What is this bet about ?​

So there are two options to keep this simple, since One Piece is hard to predict. Either:

1) Big Mom will be defeated by Luffy, or an alliance led by Luffy (like on Dressrosa) with the people currently present on Whole Cake Island before the end of the current arc.

2) Big Mom will not be beaten by Luffy this arc.

So there will always be a winning camp no matter what. Luffy doesn't have to solo her, but he has to be the one fighting her and "kicking her ass" for this to result in a Luffy camp victory. All other outcomes result in a Big Mom win. For example if for whatever reason an outsider (Kaidou, Shanks, Aokiji or whoever) arrives on WCI and plays a role in the downfall of Big Mom that will result in a victory for the Big Mom camp. You have to base this on the military strength Big Mom has left, and the allies and rebels Luffy might gather on the island when fighting her.

The wager​

To keep this fun there has to be something on the line that everyone here can deliver. So the proposal is to change the avatars of the losing side for the duration of the Wano arc in the manga.

I think it would be funny if the side who is cheering for a Luffy victory would replace their avatar with a picture of Big Mom, that seems only right if you suffered defeat at her hands. You're now part of the Charlotte family and have to sail under her flag.

The Luffy winning side is a bit more difficult because a Luffy avatar is not as much as a punishment for some people. But In my case I was willing to change my avatar from Sanji to Zoro during the Wano arc. Seeing as how I am the 'Sanji guy' in the eyes of a lot of people here. I'm sure there are some people who would think it is amusing to see that there for a pretty long time.

Maybe we can get 2 custom "loser" images made in the art section of the forum. So that the punishment is the same for everybody in the bet. We can discuss this in the thread below.

To enter the bet post a message in this thread and vote in the poll, so we've documented proof that you're in this. If you don't want to play, don't post or vote because you will have to suffer the consequences.

There are already a few people in the discussion thread ready to place a bet. I expect them to see them here as well and cement their promises.

That's a good bet, I like that bet. I may have missed if he said it but is it Luffy only or Luffy and any means like at DR? If it's the latter I'll take it if Beezy won't.

I don't like that you're ruling out outside help if Luffy's still involved, if they come for the specific intent of helping Luffy it should count(say if Sabo, or Neko shows up with WB remnants) now if they come for their own reason and happen to beat her it should count for BM(say if Kaidou comes and fights over Caesar), but I'll take it either way.

The Zoro ava is too easy, make it Pudding or Vergo maybe?

I get that and it is lenient, I just feel since Luffy's missing all the SH's if someone crashes the fight on his behalf we should count them but that's fine to exclude them.

FYI there's only 2 Sweet commanders left.

Do show where I said that, I'll wait. What I actually said, compared to what you read it as, is, if someone comes from outside WCI with the intent to help Luffy then it should still fall under Luffy's win in the scope of the bet(like Sabo or Neku) but if they come just to fight BM(like Kaido or Capone) and play a role in her defeat than it shouldn't.

Hey Love, Animus brings up a good point. IF the tatame boko explosion happens to be big enough to take her out, I know unlikely but let's say she fights for a long time gets tired but wins then goes to open the box and it explodes and she's weak enough it KO's her. How do we count that? It was sent by Luffy after all?

Luffy can use everything and everyone on the island to take her out. So if he somehow defeats her with that bomb, Luffy wins.

Like Chopstickchakra said, I agree that if someone else comes to the Island as a surprise, it shouldn't effect what I'm betting, if Luffy still physically kicks Big Mom's ass at some point in this arc.. and by the end of this arc, if Big Mom is defeated by a group of characters all helping each other, or by other means, if Luffy still kicked her ass physically at some point, I should win the bet. Because that is what I'm betting on.


2. This avatar thing is eehhh.. I'd never put a b¡tch as my ava.. so do you have another suggestion that you want me to do? (And chopstickchakra's Vergo idea for you is better than Zoro imo.. cause Zoro isn't a bad ava at all.. lol)

People can drop by on the island, I don't have a problem with that. The only thing I'm excluding is if for any reason a super power drops by and has a hand in her defeat that shouldn't count. Because at this point in time there are no clues that anyone is going to come to Luffy's aid on WCI. So that would just be gambling at this point. You cannot say that you're convinced that Luffy will kick her ass and otherwise want to keep the possibility open that Luffy might receive help.

You're betting on Luffy and not on people dropping by. Luffy already can use the everyone and everything on the island, hoping for a miraculous save is not part of the deal.

As for the avatar, it's supposed to hurt a little. I think it would be funny if you're so convinced that Big Mom will fall and she doesn't in the end that you will have to face the consequences. If her face is too much I'm also fine with it if you use her Jolly Roger as your avatar.

Big Mom's a gonna. As for who will take her out, it'll be Sanji Vinsmoke. Luffy and co will battle the Vinsmokes who'll try to intervene. Its been called the 'year of sanji' for a reason.

It was all leading up to this. Sanji's finally going to strike a women and it will be none other than big moma!

That's my bet. Probably wrong but i don't tend to just go with the flow of things. In particular, you dictating the circumstances of a bet.

I cannot see Big Mom going down by any means in this arc. She's one of the strongest pirates in the world, for her and her entire empire to be toppled by half the strawhats who aren't even there to fight her is just absurd. Even if they had help from literally every wildcard on the Island (Bege, Germa, Katakuri and Snack are the big ones), Big Mom would still win.

Ooh I like this! My vote is that Big Mom won't get beaten, I just can't see it happening, either the Stawhat's will escape during an interruption, whether it be the bomb or Capone interfering, but I think Nami will convince them to get on the Sunny and get out of there... Although I can see Big Mom possibly getting in the news for being defeated, but it'll be because of someone else and I could almost even see Oda opening up a Yonko spot that'll will kick off shit in the background whilst we're over at Wano.

As I don't have have an avatar I'll take whatever punishment is decided for me! (Although as a point of reference, can't say I'm a fan of; Usopp, Mr. 3, Wapol (or his 2 crewmates), Kidd (just for pure overhype :/)

of course in one way or another Luffy will have some sort of victory (escaping the island with Sanji and the poneglyphs is also a win for him) because he is the main character, but the conditions for a Big Mom win is not that she kills him, she just has to do well enough to not get her ass kicked by Luffy.

As for the avi, I've said a million times, I'm up for whatever. I'm not picking it myself. If you guys win you can pick it for me.
