Why Was Hashirama Stronger Than Madara?

Hashirama's power resides in his Wood Style. This is practically automatic to him while Madara never reached his full Sharingan potential until after they created an alliance. As a child, I was under the impression that Madara only said that so that they wouldn't have to fight each other, since in the fight(s) we saw they had tied. In their battle at the valley, Madara purposely lost, and under Impure World Resurrection Madara wasn't trying. I don't think the difference between them in their first life is that big.

Madara used Kurama the same way a Samurai uses his sword. Controlling bijuu is a dojutsu feat therefore in the end of the day his eye feats equalled Hashi's body feats.

Was there any particular reason why Hashirama was portrayed as the stronger since childhood?

He's even 3-0 against Madara in 1 on 1 single combat...even as edo tensei...just wondering why this was a recurring theme in the manga:

And Madara is one because he was always able to fight Hashi on equal grounds


In the end of the day controlling bijuu is a dojutsu feat which means it was his eye opwer and his skill with Sharingan that was controlling Kurama. His dojutsu matched Hashirama's body no matter how you look at it.

I agree to some point. I never understood why He faked his own death with Izanagi if he could have used it right away and finish Hashirama off by surprise, you know like Obito did to Konan?

He'd have Hashi's whole body instead of a tiny piece.

Thats the only thing i don't get either. Unless he wanted people to think he died and have people stop tracking him.

Hashirama was naturally stronger than madara ever since childhood. Just like madara himself was stronger than kids of his generation. But gap wasn't that big. Hashirama was always worn out at the end of every battle between them. And madara really thought of hashirama as a great friend and vice versa. Even in VOTE fight, madara was surprised that hashirama actually had the resolve to kill him because madara was just standing there and bragging that i won this time. Clearly not killing intent.

And about izanagi, madara probably had that programmed before fight because he knew hashirama was stronger than him and that he wouldn't be able to beat him. But since he didn't know how exactly fight will go so he couldn't stab hashirama in the back with izanagi at the end.

Edo madara was stronger than him though and was just playing around till obito was weak. He wanted hashirama's senjutsu but after he was revived. And that he did get. If naruto and sasuke failed against obito, he would have probably teamed up with hashirama to weaken obito and then get what he wanted. So it was just time kill in edo fight for him.
