Contextually, I don't think Sasuke was attempting to cleave through Madara in the first place, he was merely attempting to corner him with Naruto's assistance, so Naruto could then shackle Madara with Fuinjutsu.

Great point. Even the context makes it rather clear. He refrained from doing so because his overall goal was the work in tandem with Naruto to immobilize him while Naruto applies the Fuinjutsu. It becomes overly complicated if Sasuke simply cleaved through him.

it's not better but it has shown more impressive feats. infact, Now that I think about it. I can't think of a moment when chidori spear has actually failed it's purpose. can't say the same for chidori, enton and god forbid amaterasu. That was legitimately the first thing that came in to my mind but at the end of the day two facts still remains
Naruto who had almost the same sage body as madara was able to tank it an attack that was supposed to pierce him.

And also madara was able to to tank a compressed rasenshuriken without being cut in half.

Sasuke got trashed along with his sword by his limbo clone that have the same body as the original.

FRS is obviously stronger. The reason Madara didn't get slashed in two is because his body was in the air and thus offered very little resistance to the FRS's expansion. Thus he got pushed back instead by the FRS's outward expanding force. If he were on a solid footing like the tree next to him, he'd be the in the same condition as the tree.

That makes no sense since on impact the shurules releases energy which damages on a cellar level so it should have slice right through it doesn't matter if your in the air or not.
Besides Rasen shuriken is no match for spear techniques the example I'd give is 3rd Raikage''s nukite it clearly pierces his armour yet shuriken barely scratches him.

You misunderstand. Only chakra-based cloaks give you a strong increase in durability. An example of this is Naruto's 1 Tail Form throughout until his 6-Tail Form, as well as his Nine-Tails Chakra Mode. Cloaks that look like physical-clothing, like Six Paths Sage Mode, don't offer that protection.
