Why Was Filler Added To The New Episode, Shippuden 489?

The Shikamaru novel started off with enough stuff to hold your attention. The slice of life part of the episode, the first 8 minutes wasn't really needed.

it is not a big deal , I liked it (kinda) , it is really nice to see more about Shikamaru's life

I get why they did it, but I dunno. The opening in the novel was better imo. They could have kept the part where he met Asuma's kid, because it really hammered in the point about Shikamaru growing up. We didn't need Ino to flat out say it.

same time though, the filler they used could have been swapped out for the story. 8 minutes of filler is a good portion of the episode. The novel was like 150 pages, so it's not that big. Sasuke's novel was longer if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah. I mean if they were going to add filler, then why not do it and stretch the novels past 4 episodes? There's enough material there.

Cause they probably figured(correctly) that the Shika one would not do as good as the sasuke one(which honestly the anime version was nothing to write home about) so maybe they tried to fluff it up?

I'm biased. I enjoyed Shikamaru's novel almost as much as I enjoyed the Itachi novels and the Sakura novel. I had HIGH hopes.

That's fair, so far I've only really liked the itachi one, and the kakashi one but I read that one

The Kakashi novel had it's high points with small stuff, like seeing Gai go on one final mission. I was really hoping they would adapt that. Naruto's prank at the end was funny as hell.
