Kakashi developed purple lightning in the Kakshi Hiden novels, it was said that it was more powerful than his Raikiri and that it was solely developed to compensate his loss of obito's sharingan. There is no indication in the Sasuke novels that states that Sasuke is using purple lightning too, so i guess it's just SP with the fanservice. Other than that, i can assume that it's a manifestation of Sasuke's own chakra color, since we know that chakra color varies from user to user.

I don't know why, But I thought the color was black and Madara was using yin-yang storm release. Guess SP changed the color.

It's a ranged attack. It's similar to Chidori Nagashi but it's physically released through his hand. Sorta like a laser beam, is the most reasonable description i can come up with.

Just the animators adding things, i wouldn't look to much into it. They always change/mess with colours of things like Chakra/Jutsu colours.

Either way it doesn't make sense, because Raikiri itself is not the problem, it's the tunnel vision from the speed required to kill the target...
