It's actually an ancient Christian chant used in liturgy to this day. It basically just repeats "Lord have mercy" or something like that.

Ofcourse, Deathnote uses it as a symbolism for Kira's god complex and adds a slightly horror instrumental to it so that's where the creeps are coming from.
