Drawing is Awesome it doesn't look "pretty" like every other anime that's out now it has unique drawing style

However the anime adaptation sometimes looks funky as ****

I am not really sure if one can talk objectively about art today, especially when we are talking about anime/manga art.

Anyhow, people may like it or not but the fact is that OP is one of the most popular manga today and I don't think that the manga would be that if the art was flawed. Project K, Tokyo Ghoul, Bleach all have different art styles but they have some things in common: the art is more clean and it leans more to realism. OP doesn't have that but instead it has greater variety. As some other people said the art fits the story. They complement each other. Clean style found in mentioned manga would not fit well the adventurous spirit and humor of OP in my opinion... and that is just one thing.

Surely, people are free to like or dislike something, but I think that it's bad, in general, to see anime/manga world throught the lens of a certain animation/art style. Beauty can be found at most unexpected places.

P. S. Can't even find words for the people who made posts saying ''garbage'' for someone's work. That's so sad, tbh.

I think OP has the best art of the weeklys at this point, unlike naruto or bleach or 90% of manga you can actually distiguish the characters from one another and not like naruto where everyone looks the same with maybe slightly longer hair or a piercing and the detail is bonkers at times :S I always liked imaginative artstyles, it's why I enjoy colorful, imaginative fantasy games etc there's no denying Oda's style is brilliantly imaginative, if someone is not open to a slightly diferent story I feel sorry for them, they will miss out on some of the greatest tales this world has to offer

and I don't think anyone can say the art is bad, in fact, it's rather fantastic for a weekly work, artstyle does not equal art quality

wouldn't the wonderful world of art be boring if all the great painters painted ''realistic'' paintings?

One Piece has a fantastic art style. Matter of fact, it's my favorite. I'd say the only flaw in his style is how he draws women now. I'm no feminist, but I do not like women to be toothpicks in manga. I think he really needs to draw womens' waist lines as they should be: normal.

thats only because he gives most of his characters horrible proportions and exaggerated features. if he draws them properly they all look the same.

compare the few characters he draws without the retarded proportions(minus the breasts) like nami rebbecca shirahoshi etc and notice that they have the exact same face

I was just thinking, so many people hate one piece because of the character designs. Personally I've grown quite fond of it but whenever people try to get into one piece most of the time they would end up dropping it because they hate the art. I mean for those of us that's already hooked we know how amazing the story itself is not to mention the strong connection we feel with the characters because of back stories. If only most characters didn't look so weird one piece would have an even larger community. I know it brings a sense of originality but I honestly see it as flaw. Many times I recommend one piece to my real life friends and they end up quitting around arlong arc. One piece could be perfect if it just had bad ass looking character designs like bleach, project k or Tokyo ghoul.

I imagine there is a reasonable amount of people who don't like OP because of its at first seemingly childish and caricatural-like art style, however there is something wrong here with your reasoning. You assume because there are people who don't like OP for this reason, that if the art is changed, OP will be even better. However you completely disregard the option here that there are also a lot of people who like OP because of that same style. The fact that OP is in Japan by far the most popular manga clearly shows that the latter group far outnumbers the former group.

You also wrongly assume that you can just change one style for another without affecting everything else. Bleach and TG have peculiar artwork, but they are incompatible with the story of OP. For instance Kubo has a somewhat minimalistic type of drawing style, which is the complete opposite of Oda who spends a ridiculous amount of time and effort to add multiple layers of details and complexities in most of his panels. In the hypothetical case you would change Oda's style with that of Kubo's, the entire story would undergo a transformation and I sincerely doubt in a positive way. It's impossible to do with Kubo's style what Oda's does with his own.

Artwork by its very definition is something subjective, but it's not because there are some people who dislike it, that by default it means it's bad. Originally when I hadn't read the series myself and I saw some loose fragments I thought "what the hell is this?", but after I started reading the series I was "who the hell was I kidding, I love this". That childish and caricatural-like art charms people, don't forget Dragonball was very similar in that aspect. Sure there are always people who will have different preferences, however the truth remains that OP has an almost universal attraction. I remember there was once a poll that researched which manga parents preferred, and OP took first spot. It's something everyone can enjoy, which is really not the case for a manga like TG or AoT which attracts certain types of people.

I'm pretty sure he's saying if you take away the hair and reduce them to the base design, they're all the same. The shapes of their bodies and faces. Meanwhile, One Piece has many diverse shapes and sizes. You can't take Law's hair, put in on Zoro's base, and it'd look just like Law did before. With Naruto characters, you could swap hairstyle and eye shading and the face would look the same as the character you're swapping with.

Like, you could add the hairstyle and clothing to this, and make like 90% of the Naruto characters

There's no doubt that OP has more vaired character design but the fanart exaggerates how similar Naruto characters can look.
