The problem was it took him way too long to become good and then when he did become good there was no time for development revolving around him with the good guys so he just seemed out of place by the end of it.

Recall, Sasuke could see in the dark. The light speech didn't work when Gaara, Kakashi and Naruto gave it to him. Sasuke was too defiant to listen.

I agree that Kishi did wait too long to redeem Sasuke. If that's what you call Chapter 698-699. But we got 220+ chapter of the war arc, that nobody wanted. SMH

Plus it fits the brutal world of the shinobi that Sasuke lives in. The same world that Zabuza, Itachi, Pein/Nagato (before Naruto's TNJ), Danzo and Madara lived it. Combat, conflict and power.
