So Sadio Mane, (Liverpool's ace in Courtinho's absence) replied religiously when asked about his motivation. He stated how he is a thorough Muslim and prays 5 time a day and doesn't drink etc and it helped him...
He was met with some hostility in the replies of English Reds' supporters, there were others in his defense:

I've seen quite a dislike even here on NB from certain gentlemen. I might blame "dumb shit everywhere" on it as well... Maybe :elmo:
England is pretty secular. Like most advanced european countries, it considers it's Christian tradition foolish and outdated while being unwelcoming and hostile to Islam. Not that I blame them though.
islam is kinda like women. no one understands them except they themselves and they hate each other. XD
no seriously though:
its always easy to hate, especially in times like these... muslim are just becoming what jews were before. also fb isnt really a place to expect tolerance and insight....once people are behind the screen they turn into animals.
i kinda agree with the first comment though.... keep politics and religion out of sports, thats a pretty fair statement.

Why is it that the ones who feel the need to type a statement expressing their contempt do so with spelling errors?
"that's what your paid for"
"not who's imaginary friend is better"
"keep your religion to yourself chap...best keep religion and politics out of football....this is a Christian country" Couldn't see the irony in that one before posting eh?
"your outdated religion Now I usually don't play this role but if Islam is outdated what is Christianity when it was created prior? That's like saying this 2012 TV is out dated, I'm gonna use my TV from the '50's. FOH.
"He should stop bringing religion stuffs in here"

I figure that anyone who feels the need to rant to people he doesn't know isn't bright enough in the first place so no need to be suprised about poor grammar.
That's because 80% of footy fans here are about as enlightened as a braindead seal. So many fall under the hooligan/chavvy bracket and are the same type of people who often go to matches just to have a big fight.
The same type of people who want free speech for themselves but tell to be quiet/attack anyone with an opposing view/belief. Stupid, hypocritical p*icks. However, they don't represent the beliefs of the entire population or anything close.

As a British person myself, I can say that Islam is accepted in my community. Then again, I am a Londoner; where we are more tolerant towards diversity.
As Pumpkin Ninja said, Facebook posts doesn't really reflect the whole nation's views.
As a reply to the point that England is a Christian country, I think we're only a Christian country by historical status. Most of the people I meet (both in and out of London) in Britain are not Christian.
Finally, and more on topic, I find it stupid that people are questioning his motivation. If the question was "what motivates you" and his reply is religion, why are they talking about "don't bring religion into football"? He's just answering the question.
Most of us are above it luckily but I do live in a borough where an extremist hate party (commonly viewed as school playground-level clowns in other parts of the country) are the town's party representative. UKIP won here and Nigel Farage remains the most hated man in Britain.
Considering he jokes about the murder of another MP who was killed by an extremist nut this year and insults her widowed husband with the most boyish immature comeback shows the kind of men we're talking about here.
By claiming to not 'be like these other politicians', Nigel Farage is ironically the most silver-tongued politician of them all.

And it motivated lot of others to wage war destroy civilization and kill people. Such claims are grossly offending to those people who died because of that ideology.
