Yeah, I feel that Kishi wanted to make something of it, but failed miserably.

I don't think there's a pairing that makes sense in the whole manga though. Maybe Kurenei and Asuma.

It isn't a conventional nor is their family dynamic (in addition to Sarada) but there's a fondness they have to each other that was established over the Blank Period which was never devolped which makes it nonexistent to most people because there's nothing to reference it., so you really can't hold it against people who won't by the genuineness of Sasukes fondness for Sakura.

Anyway, its obvious in Gaiden that Sasukes harbors a warm (positive) connection to Sakura and does care about her well being even though it isn't illustrated in a obvious way.

Well for starters:

Sakura still having feelings for Sasuke after everything he did to her and still spreading her legs for him was downright retarded. She has no self-respect, which one of the big reasons why she's failed as a character.

And the whole Gaiden thing felt force. Sasuke didn't even look happy to be near her to the point, he left without kissing her. They only had one romantic moment within a twelve year span and they are barely canon or even married.

Honestly, I can't see how people could be so retarded to ship them after everything Sasuke did to her. And they treat this pairing like its the greatest thing while also discarding what happened between the two characters in the series before Chapter 699 was produced. (Tumblr I'm looking at you)

On the other hand, SS is also a selfish pairing including NaruHina, because Sasuke has shown time and time again that he had no romantic feelings for her before he did a complete 180.

I would challenge your friend to read the Sakura novel. They actually have a really decent love story, post time skip.

Whats funny about all this is that sasuke and sakura probably aren't legally married. The only thing that keeps them together is sarada. If sarada wasn't born there likely wouldn't be any sasusaku now. Sasuke doesn't love sakura,he has never said he did,i don't even think there's been a kiss or even hug. Sasuke just feels like he owes sakura for caring about him all these years.
