As many know many ninjas in Naruto uses outside source power such as Orochimaru, Naruto, Sasuke, Madara, Kabuto etc. But there are ninjas who are strong without outside source power such as these:

Hashirama = a beast in power yet no outside source power
Gai = Can use the gate which makes him powerful
3rd Raikage = Really powerful
Hamura = powerful
4th Raikage
Tobirama
Hiruzen
Minato
2nd and 3rd Kage that does Jinton
Haku
Lee
Itachi
Sakumo Hatake
Tsunade
Sakura

There are so many who are strong yet they don't use outside source power. In my opinion their power is more impressive since they took no short cuts to getting strong.

I didn't add Hagoromo since he was the Jinchuuriki of the Juubi.

Isn't Totsuka and Yata the same as wielding a powerful weapon like a sword? If that the case I don't see that as outside source. It when someone has to steal someone dna, body part, living beings etc that is outside source since you are using someone else being or body part for power.

One can argue that even that can be count as just wielding sword. Who the **** cares that power comes from Bijuu or someones else eyes ? Its all just weapon and they are using it.

Without outside source of power Sasuke and Naruto would still be the strongest because of their chakra, they can learn majority of the techs you mentioned which makes them even more impressive.

And technically Sage Mode relies on outside power because NE isn't naturally part of Hashi's chakra.

There is a line to be drawn in when a weapon is a weapon and when a weapon is a borrowed power. Sasuke's Kusanagi is just a really sharp sword for example, while Kisame's Samehada provides way too many benefits with its use to be discarded as "just a sword."

The fact that Itachi didn't show any big skill with Totsuka, just stabbing people with it and sealing them away, also contributes to the borrowed power aspect.

If you are getting that deep into the idea of borrowed power, then you might as well put chakra itself on the list since it came from the Shinju to begin with.

By that definition, wielding other's Dojutsu also fall under the same category... And by extension, using a Bijuu is legitimate too.

Totsuka and Yata have their own powers, they're not Itachi's... But Itachi uses them for himself, that's same as Kakashi using Sharingan or MS, the eye has power, Kakashi just uses it.

I want to make something clear incase I am not being clear. Outside source means your using someone else body part. Here are examples that falls to outside source:

Kakashi = Using someone else eye
Danzo = Using someone else eye and Hashirama DNA
Sasuke = Using Itachi eyes and Hagomoro power
Naruto = Using Bijuus, living entity
Kabuto = Using so many DNA of others


Using Totsuka is like using Shuriken and Kunai, it not a living entity. But then again these weapon seem to grant unnatural powers, so maybe I could be wrong.

@Rikudou Tobi what make KKG different than Shikamaru born with high IQ? Both are born natural, no modification, outside source, etc are required for KKG and High IQ.

Hmm I don't remember Shikamaru working hard to be a genius, Asuma had to trick Shikamaru into playing Shogi to test Shikamaru intelligence. Shikamaru got a very high IQ genius level.

I guess your right Sakumon does belong to the list, he was a well known ninja.

While Tsunade and Sakura are normally underrated, you are right they gained their power without stealing or using borrowed power from someone else.

Tsunade and Sakura are 100% natural power gained by training.
