But none of us know what the hypothetical Naruto series would be without Sasuke. That's manga panel time that could've been given to the likes of the Hyuuga, Uzumaki, establishing other villages better, Naruto's maturity, making sense of the Ootsutsuki and god knows what else. It was an editor who suggested Sasuke as a rival figure right?
I would've liked to have seen other characters given the 'Shikamaru treatment' when he was given his own arc and constant development in line with the protagonists. We'll never know what could've been because Kishi was so insistent on proud sociopathic Uchiha villains.
The story we have? Yeah, Sasuke is integral and a good chunk of the series but I never understand when people say he's the single most important character and without him there's no Naruto manga. It'd just find another focus than brotherhood- god knows it could get onto the messiah theme a couple hundred arcs earlier.
Well you're not completely wrong about the other minor characters, but my point was focused on comparisons to Naruto. Naruto got panel time and his fights and moments put me to bed. From Team 7 only Sasuke and Kakashi brought it, when it came to battles in part 2 (both sharingan users).
If Sasuke didn't get all that time, I'm afraid Naruto would get a bigger chunk of it, and that would hurt this series more than do good if you're talking fights.
