Smartest Naruto characters

Before people start replying, I would like to clarify what I mean by smart here.

I break down smartness into IQ and EQ

IQ- Intelligence/Quick learning/Skillfulness/Innovation
EQ- Wisdom/Understanding your own and others' emotions

So in my humble opinion, the characters that score high on both the parameters, and are therefore the smarter ones are:-

1) Itachi
2) Kakashi
3) Tobirama
4) Hiruzen
5) Orochimaru

I don't mean to imply that these are 'perfect' characters. Obviously these characters have made mistakes, just like any other.

I don't rate Naruto or Sasuke as very smart. Naruto is good on EQ but average on IQ. Sasuke is 1000/100 on IQ but very low on EQ (before 699, throughout part 2). He only reconciles with his emotions in 699. He refused to acknowledge them before.

Who are some of the other smart characters?

Tobirama understood that Uchihas are driven by love and are therefore unstable. That shows he understood what drives people and their emotions. Granted that his actions were not the best, but at least he understood emotions very well.

Orochimaru also understands what drives people. He is able to play on it as well with Hiruzen and Sasuke. He understands people and himself, but doesn't give a F about others.

Orochimaru, Tobirama, Minato, Itachi, Tsunade, Nara's ect..

Hiruzen is not one of my favourite characters. I just put him there because I thought he deserved to be acknowledged in this category. Also I admitted in a later post that I forgot about the Naras. Of course they are smart.

Minato is a brilliant shinobi indeed. He was the deciding factor in Third Shinobi war and was an excellent fighter.

However, as an Hokage, he failed to even acknowledge the issue that Tobirama had started. He didn't even knew how Uchihas felt (at least the series did not showed that he was even aware about the issue). When you are the Hokage and you are not even aware about this, I think you have missed something. Of course the Uchiha discontent was not as great as it was after Obito attacked, but the seeds were still there. Hiruzen was at least aware about all this. Granted that he was shit, but he was still aware.

P.S.:- I do like Minato as a character much more than Hiruzen

Hiruzen is not a likeable character for me either. He was powerless to stop the Uchiha massacre, which makes him shit as a Hokage.

But as far as smartness is considered, I would still rate him high on both IQ and EQ. Of course, this opinion is subjective and your opinion is as valid as mine.
