It's mostly because of mainstream. All people nowadays want is a badass Gary Stu characters, who are supposedly invincible and can outsmart, befriend, and defeat everyone without a struggle. Then you have the Loli (Pedophile crap), ecchi with the big boobs and curves, big bang attacks, and cliche tropes and characters.

For example, Sword Art Online, Fairy Tail, and Astrisk Wars. All of which are just pure garbage.
