Hell Madara was changing eyes like socks and he never fused anything.

When he just casually floated by and snatched kakashis eye was one of funniest moments in the manga/anime for me(and yes I know it wasn't supposed to be... but damn)

Madara has Izuna's eye's!.. Izuna's eyes are EMS in Madara's sockets.. Their MS patterns fuse (In a since) for Madara's eternal light.. It's the same for Sasuke, Itachi's eye pattern fuse with Sasuke's an gave him eternal light..

Itachi stated that many tried & failed at attaining new light because they were not of close blood. (Brother in his case)

I'm assumong you have to unlock MS first in order to get eternal light.. (It's not a fact but it would make sense) Once unlocked an you have a sibling then it's possible to just switch so that both could gain new light..

IMHO it's just a pattern fusion not eyeballs fusing together!..

Kishi left that out though as far as just having them switch eyes keeping Izuna & Itachi alive..

That being said!.. New gen Sarada should get Sasuke old set & gain eternal light down the line.. Ha!

You are right, it's not a fusions. The eyes don't meld together, it just provide eternal light and nothing more special.

Ok so recently(and for the first time) I've read people say ems is a from a fusing of both eyes(sasuke & itachis, mads & izunas). I've never even considered this to be a possibility and am wondering where people got this from. I've always thought it came from transplanting a siblings eyes(although the only time it's worked is for transmigrants). My thought has been that since the receiver of the eyes already has unlocked mangekyo(sharingan itself is caused by special chakra after all, feelings for ms) as well as the giver, since the eyes given have already unlocked an ms, it would make sense(to me anyhow) that when those eyes are put into a sibling socket that has also unlocked his own ms, that the chakra that made the recipients ms would mix with the existent chakra in the eyes creating the combined ms design. Anyhow I was just curious on the bases thoughts on this. Personally I think it's just a transplant that fulfills the right requirements and not a fusion of the eyes. But if there's something that says other wise or people have good reasoning id like to read that too

Bruh it's a straight up transplant first of all nothing even hints or explicitly ever said that is what's going on and how would eyes fuse.


Think about this we know ms is activated after some incident were chakra in brain activates this. So if someone takes those eye with their chakra in the eyes and place it in the socket while activating their own sharingan eyes both chakra in the eye would fuse creating a new ms eyes

The EMS pattern basically represents the union of both chakras like Naruto's eyes when he mixes NE with bijuu chakra

The reason EMS has only worked twice in the entire clan's history is because only siblings of equal eye power have the chakra required to unlock EMS similar to how only Ashura has the chakra required to unlock Rinnegan. Izuna was considered Madara's equal and Itachi was above Sasuke until he became sick.

The truth is... the manga implies both. Clearly the manga calls it a transplant, yet it implies that only one brother can receive the gift, meaning the other must die in order for the other to receive it. This implication leads to the belief that simply swapping is not possible.

Then we have chapter 386, that a few have posted images of, that directly shows the demon with 2 eyes and 2 empty sockets (MS) followed by the same demon with 4 eyes (EMS). This is directly where people get the fusion idea from.

Bottom line? A lot of what's 'implied' points toward fusion being the answer. However, all the 'evidence' points toward it being a transplant. To me it seems like Kishi liked the idea of only 1 of the 2 siblings actually getting the power... but mistakenly left the door open to swapping an simply... ignored it.

Yes, the manga clearly shows EMS being the result of Sasuke's chakra mixing with Itachi's chakra, it's why the eyes have patterns of both users. It's no different to how Rinnegan would awaken if you transplanted Sasuke's eyes into Naruto.

The fusion theory isn't wrong though, Itachi's chakra was in his eyes so when Sasuke transplanted them the chakra in the dojutsu fused with his own and as a result EMS awakened.

Reason only Madara and Sasuke were the only ones able to awaken it is because they were the only ones that had siblings with the eye power required to unlock it.

It's a fusing of chakra yes, but I asked cause I saw people saying it was literally fusing the 2 eyes together, thus the thread, to see where people got it from
