Its called a revamp. Its overwriting what was previously Canon with something new in order to change or improve it in some way.

I mean it doesn't technically make sense since the thicc final form Momoshiki is a hybrid of him and Kinshiki (hence the bulkiness) but it's a nice design.

Well, he was that in the movie, but we don't know if its the same. For all we know, here Kinshiki might just offer him a boost in power rather than give Momo his abilities. Kind of like Cell and the Androids from Dragon Ball.
