[Discussion] Why are lottery winners never respected when they move into new luxury neighbourhoods

I read somewhere jackpot winners when they move to new neighborhoods of luxury pr-existing neighbors lack respect for them. Labeling their source as luck. Why is that? In life it doesn't matter how much one works luck plays a hand. "being in the right place at the right time" is always the start of "richness", you'll never work your way to the top, luck is required. Is that treatment justifiable?

I see what you're trying to say. But your a bit mistaken. Yes luck plays an important role but it is not only luck that garners riches.

"Half is what you know, the other half is who you know." Luck doesn't play a factor until you yourself do the work, earn your way into the right circles, then there's a degree of work before luck (you getting noticed and eventually mentorship/sponcership) before the money starts rolling in.

For the rich neighborhoods the new "wealthy" move into. While it's kind of bad to simply dislike them for how they got their riches. They have a small point. Many lottery winners don't really respect their newfound money. More importantly, they don't know how to manage it. And they buy expensive things without any thought of the cost of upkeep, repairs etc.

the rich move in certain circles such as fundraisers, charities, etc. but those who simply win their money feel that this isn't their circle and may keep themselves separate from them making them social pariahs in their new social class.

Still rather than help them(those who won the lottery) the rich just look on with disdain and that isn't good for sure.

Because most of these rich people has done so many things which can be labeled evil or immoral that they are jealous that someone can sleep easy at night and be rich like them.

It actually has to do with social classes. The rich belong to a social class that is very closed off from the rest of the classes. They have different manurisms and don't connect well with the lower class. And when someone from a lower class comes into contact with a lot of money they may be rich but they still have lower class mentality. For instance it may have been funny to burp and watch wrestling when they were in their old classes but that would be entirely inappropriate in this new class. Atleast that's my take on it

The old war of old money vs. new money.

Some from old money will sneer at those from new because of a perceived difference in social class. The new money might have come from some working or middle class family whilst old tends to come from some kind of long standing heritage. There's a stereotype that new money tends to garishly flaunt their wealth without any class, whilst old money is a sign of someone cultured, intelligent and classy. It's also true that old money has status, which is often perceived as more important than the money itself.

Because they are jealous and snoddy. Their opinions and judgements are irrelevant.

On the other hand, why would you want to move to a fancy, pansy neighborhood and not a normal and upstanding suburb? If I was a lottery winner, I would do the smart thing and invest in some business ventures like owning a few restaurant chains and stores. That way, you have more money coming in.

I would get an IPO on the basis of the businesses I invest into to have more buyers and get a CD investment. I would play it safe, thus, allowing me to earn more cash on the side and life to the fullest.
