Alright people this is to reconfirm that fart can cause fire.
This is one of those stories that's so unfortunate you almost can't believe it's true. But sadly, an unnamed woman in Japan has suffered severe burns after she farted during an operation and the whole room set on fire.
Now, I know what you'll be thinking — did they have a blow torch in the direct firing line of her bum or something? Because how on earth can a bit of gas emerging from a woman's backside cause a full-blown fire?
According to the Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun, the surgeons were using a laser to assist them during the surgery on the woman's cervix, which caused the problem. Here's what the report said:
When the patient's intestinal gas leaked into the space of the operation [room], it ignited with the irradiation of the laser, and the burning spread, eventually reaching the surgical drape and causing the fire.
The fire spread so viciously in the operating room at Tokyo Medical University Hospital that medical staff were unable to remove the woman from the room in quickly enough time, which resulted in some serious burns to her lower body.
Luckily, the woman's injuries weren't fatal — for obvious reasons (and the fact that nobody would want that on their death certificate).
