Well Guy used evening elephant (an air cannon punch) and the night moth (a space bending super kick) so I'm pretty sure he had time to study up on these techniques, because that isn't something you can just pull out of your ass. So he either witnessed his dad doing it against the mist 7 swordsman before he ran away, or these attacks are common 8 gates knoiwledge, also in the manga lee had heard of evening elephant before, this mnga scan proves it, so no Guy did not just create all this stuff on the fly he had already knew about these ,oves and even talked to lee about them prior to this occasion

There is thing as battle genius. Naruto was shown as Kinesthetic student. Learners with kinesthetic preferences learn through active movements and experiences. That does not mean that he is dumb. After all how fast did he learn rasengan? Or rasenshuriken which even Kakashi failed and created chidori.

Yes, it is because Gai is a complete master and genius at Taijutsu.

He likely estimated how great his abilities would be based off his experience with the first 7 Gates, and created strategies around his estimations for the 8th Gate.

Hence why the EE technique worked, but Gai had no idea of the pain involved. He didn't create them on the fly, but they were educated guesses.

Just goes to show how much of a master Gai was at Taijutsu. Literally the best in the history of the NV.

The manga implies that it's common knowledge that after going 8th Gate, they can use those moves.
Only Minato was surprised because he never knew he could go full gates, others didn't and Lee even knew the full mechanics of the EE, how it's a consecutive patterned attack.

P.S.
It makes sense for Gai who has been training himself and studying Taijutsu/8 Gates for all his life.
Unlike those kids who aren't taught at academy that with different eyes you can shoot flames from eyes or create humanoid monsters at yet they do it instantly.

Unlike Lee, Guy has always been talented. He must have conceptualized and created Sekizo and Yagai though, before using it.


Kicking up air isn't a big feat for him either, considering all of his Gated attacks apart from Asa Kujaku manipulate air pressure, including his much practised Hirudora.
