There are some moments where I think it would have been better if those characters died. The deaths in Naruto where you felt the most where the ones with meaning. Meaningful deaths makes us feel. Like Jiraiya who sacrificed himself to reveal the secret of Pain. Or the third hokage who died to save the village from Orochimaru. Itachi who died for his brother and Minato and Kushina who died for Naruto and the village.

These are all sad deaths because they meant something, it was for a purpose. On the other hand some deaths felt like they put it in just to kill someone who was getting irrelevant. Like Neji and Shikamarus dad. I'm not saying it hurt the story but there are some deaths that would have made more sense, been emotional and benefited the story greatly.

1. Tsunade dies during Pains attack: Her final sacrifice is to save the citizens of Konoha. It would have been a very heroic hokage moment for Tsunade and a fitting death. She was basically dead anyway until Danzo died. Make the hokage succession an issue and make Kakashi the hokage during the war.

2. Gai dies during the opening of the 8 gates: This should be obvious, you DIE if you open the 8 gates, the end, no coming back. This was his big moment of the series and he did it because it was the last option. Having him die thinking that he failed would give a sense of hopelessness until Naruto and Sasuke came back. It is also poetic in away that a man obsessed with youth dies young. But now he is a cripple and his life sucks. I love Gai and I'm sad to see how he ended up. He should have died.

So these are the two deaths I feel should have happened. What do you think about it? Are there any characters that you felt should have died, or perhaps not died?

Tsunade dying during Pain's attack would have made no sense as Nagato would have used Rinne Tensei afterwards anyways.
She should have died at the end trying to heal the Kages after the Madara battle.

She could have died after he did the rinne tensei, during the coma.

I agree to all the deaths you chose.

I also think that Obito should've died earlier. The amount of his ass pulled revivals during the final two arcs felt annoying to me.

I would also like for Sakura to die at some point. Not necessarily in the beginning, but I think it could've served as a good character development driver for both Naruto and Sasuke beside making her character more meaningful.

Killer Bee should've died when Madara extracted Gyuki from him, too. His survival always seemed like a horribly underestimated (by the manga's fanbase) ass pull to me.

I would also kill a few more fodder characters during the war, because for such a destructive war as Kishimoto tried to make it look, for nearly every character that had been mentioned in the manga to miraculously survive, it seems too unbelievable and juvenile to me.

I almost wrote that in the original post that some fodder characters should have died, like Iruka sensei. I agree more fodder deaths
